I do also enjoy that the grill is not all chrome on that F150.

It's the range when towing, offroading, or both that aggravates me about that tiny 21 gallon tank.

I don't mind hauling extra fuel but going offgrid for a week the generator has to be fed also. Hauling fuel for both the generator AND the truck is not ideal. Five gallons more stock can get me two days before I have to go into town to refuel. That's why we bought the trailer with a 52 gallon fresh water tank, we can stay offgrid two days longer without going into town to refresh and dump. Same principle applies to the truck which is why I bought the Tundra with a 26.5 gallon fuel tank.

That makes sense! When I bought the Tacoma I had hopes of building it up for expedition travels, or at least getting out into the woods for camping more. Having the fuel would have been useful then like with you. But then the wife insisted on more animals. One dog. Then a second one to keep the first one company. Then chickens for eggs. Then one of our daughter's friend's mom lost their house, and their chickens and ducks needed a place to go.... Then she wanted goats for milk.... *sigh* So we have to be home in the morning to let them out, and put them back inside at night. Water/feed twice a day, more water on hot days. And of course we don't have anyone that can do that for us for a weekend, let alone a week. So no vacations, or overnight stays anywhere.

What do you mean? I spend more time hauling passengers, cargo, building materials, tractor, trailer, pallets of wood pellets, and commuting than I do offroading. More power and better brakes makes towing easier. Tacoma struggled with a 5x10 landscape trailer and 2000lb tractor or pallet of pellets. Would've been nose up if not for the rebuilt springs, and braking down hills was always sketchy.

This is just about the perfect truck for my needs.

well if you put it that way, full size all the way.

I bought a taco since I like having a manual truck and live in the city. every inch counts when parking.

EDIT: I also do haul things often enough that a truck is warranted.

I thought the same way at first. Had a Corolla, figured the smaller truck (while getting used to a larger vehicle) would be better. After we bought a house it seemed like every damn thing I bought was too big for the bed. :facepalm:Soon after we bought the house (or maybe just before) I added 4 extra D-rings to help strap things down, and that helped as long as what I was hauling could support it's own weight hanging off the tailgate.

I enjoyed the 6 speed, but the clutch was wearing on me. After a long day of work, my leg would tremble holding it in at lights. I was never a fan of autos, but as they've added gears (5 in the pathfinder, 6 in the F150), I find they shift better. Older ones never seemed to shift "right" to me.
Also, I almost had countless accidents thanks to Toyota's shitty ABS! :annoyed: It caused my tires to skip like flat stones across a pond, regardless of tire type. Slid into several intersections in the winter, and almost hit parked cars in my apartment parking lot due to ice and gravel.

Meanwhile, I've nearly stood on the F150's brakes on a gravel road, and it just STOPPED. No BS!

Let me be clear here. I was *never* a Ford fan. I was always one of those "found on road dead", "driver returned on foot" kind of guys. My great-uncle had a Ford Winstar and Ranger probably 10-15 years ago, and that's the closest anyone in my family came to owning a Ford. Mom and grandparents have had Toyota's for 20 years or more. Aunt and Uncle were all Toyota, Izuzu, and Nissan. My inlaws had domestics, and were always borrowing my imports when one was in the shop.

But then we had problems with our Rav4 turning off all the traction control shit randomly in the winter, due to an emissions related code (P0420), and Toyota refused to fix it. TSB called for 1qt of oil consumed per 1,000 miles. We were at half a quart. Or 3 quarts over a 5,000 mile interval. It holds just over 3 quarts. So the damn thing changes itself, minus the filter. Toyota didn't consider losing VSC and 4wd on a 4wd vehicle in the winter a safety issue and wouldn't fix it. I might have paid to fix it just because the exhaust repair bills to pass NY inspection would have quickly eclipsed the cost of new piston rings, but they didn't help. I complained on FB, twitter, to the dealer, to the 800 customer satisfaction line, nothing. Finally I emailed 20 or so CEO, VP, legal type employees I found on the company's biography page. Two days later I got a call from someone at the "Executive Office" asking for the full story, name of dealer, and if I could bring it back for them to look at again. I explained everything to him, then told him I was 20 minutes away from trading it for Nissan Pathfinder because they wouldn't stand behind their product. (It was a 2007 model, less than 90,000 miles, 5 years old with the CPOE 100k warranty.)

Then my mom's 2013 Rav4 caught fire when she rear-ended another car under 30mph at a red light. Toyota determined the bumper pushed through the radiator, pushed the radiator hose against the cat, and started the fire which ignited the fuel line. The airbags didn't even deploy! They said it was normal, and didn't do anything to help.

So, I went with an F150, and my mom and grandmother both went with Subaru Foresters. All of us are tired of Toyota.

I will probably grow out of it at some point. Hell might even go back to the America brands too depending on how this truck and Toyota if needed treats me. TBH I am short and the first Toy truck I drove was a 94 truck. I loved the seating position and how it felt while driving so bought my current one and have not been disappointed. Even stuffed my parents into the jump seats when their Ford took a poop on them.

Lastly, glad you like your truck!

Have you ever used x-plan? It is a joke. I work for a company that owns several ford dealerships. They discount up front, minimal negotiation room allowed. Their sales price listed on their website is always a better price.

You would probably be able to negotiate a better deal at your local dealership. Don't handcuff yourself with x-plan.

Now if you could get an A-Plan or D-Plan pin... that might be a different story.

With all that I've said, I think it's the little things that really amaze me.

    • 10-way electric seats. So those of you that are short can raise the seat. Long legs can tilt the seat to better support them. Lumbar support in BOTH front seats, not just the driver like the Tacoma.
    • Heated seats. (They offer heated AND cooled as well as massaging seats, I didn't get those.) Great for a long day when your back is sore, it's cold out, or you have back issues like my wife. She turns it on as soon as she gets in now, even when it's 80 out.
    • Fuzzy velcro bits on the passenger seat belt buckles so they don't rattle against the plastic trim pieces! (That shocked me! Never saw that advertised anywhere.)
    • Cable conduits under the center console lid so you don't pinch your phone cords going to the 12v outlet inside. Our Rav4 had both 12v and aux-in in the center console and the cables ALWAYS got pinched when we closed it.
    • Hood struts!! How many of you have bought the RedLine kit to put struts on the Tacoma because using the prop stick is stupid?! I know I did. $60 in parts and half an hour of my time I don't need to waste now.
    • Locking tailgate. How many Tacoma tailgates have been stolen? So many that people learned to put a hose clamp on it to make it harder.
    • All 12v outlets stay on after exiting the vehicle to continue charging phones, etc for up to an hour.
    • Radio stays on with the key off until a front door is opened. Those opening also kill power to window and moon roof switches.
    • Being so much wider, it feels more stable in twists, and I think there was less motion for one of kids that gets motion sickness.
    • Both AC and heat will freeze/bake us out of the truck. Really curious to see how that works when it's below zero, but I found myself turning the AC down when it was 90 out. Heat in the Tacoma was good, AC never this good even when it worked.
    • Active louvers in the grill. (This kinda blew my mind.) There are shutters in the grill that open and close to control airflow over the radiator to maintain optimum operating temperature. They shut at highway speed to supposedly reduce drag.
    • Electric adjustable pedals
    • Cargo light switch turns on puddle lights, 3rd brake lights, LED box lights, and maybe license plate lights. All I know is it lights up everything around the damn truck. I know a lot of us were frustrated with the lack of lighting on the Tacoma.
    • Cruise shows set speed (59 mph, 61 mph, etc), turns green when active, white when inactive.
    • Vents are bigger, blowing more air into the cab, under the seats, and through the center console to the rear passengers.
    • Anti-rollback feature. I can tap the brake to stop on a hill, and take my foot off without the truck rolling back. Not as big of a deal on an auto as it is on a manual, but still a problem if you're hauling a loaded trailer.
    • The rubber bottoms of the cup holders and storage bins are removable for cleaning.
    • Doors auto lock at 5mph (can be disabled). Only the front doors unlock when you pull the handle to open the door, so the rear doors (by default) have a child-lock engaged so a young kid grabbing the handle won't open the door while you're driving. The lock tab can be pulled to manually unlock, and if the engine is off opening the driver door unlocks all 4 (plus the tailgate).
    • Cargo lights turn off after 10 minutes or 5mph so you don't leave them on while driving or drain the battery.
    • Rear camera can have a turn off delay so if you shift to drive it stays on until you reach 5 mph. Useful for lining up with parking spots, or pulling ahead to line up with the trailer. (I used it to make sure the drop hitch is on my side of the yellow line so I don't park like an asshole.)
    • Headlight turn-off delay can be adjusted if you light them to stay on longer to light up the way to your house after you turn off the truck.
    • Spare tire requires key to drop.
    • Tailgate doesn't flex with me sitting on it like the Tacoma's did (prompting me to mount pieced of angle iron inside to strengthen it). In fact, the built-in step is rated for 300lbs. I weight 180, so plenty to spare.
    • Tailgate damper so it doesn't slam down.
    • 4 wheel disc brakes. Should be a lot easier to work on than the drums in the Tacoma.
    • Built-in trailer brake controller (with max tow package)
    • Info display in the dash:
      • instant MPG
      • Distance, gallons used, avg MPG, duration (time) per trip meter (2 of them)
      • last 30 minutes MPG
      • left/right tilt angle
      • forward/back tilt angle
      • steering angle
      • power distribution per tire
      • PSI per tire (except spare)
      • compass
      • engine run and idle hours
      • oil life percentage
      • trailer status (connected, not connected, lights working or not)
      • trailing connected check list (yes, as my wife put it, you *could* pre-flight this bitch)
      • trailer type/config/naming
      • Probably more I can't remember

That's the exact thought I had when I sat in one for my first test drive and the sales girl started pointing things out. Looking at a brochure or feature list online was one thing. Seeing it in person was another!

You'd have to specify the type of fanboy: 3rd gen, Tacoma, or Toyota fanboy?
I myself am an 'any Toyota truck or SUV prior to 2005' fanboy

Piercedtiger pretty much nailed it. Only thing I'll add - My 5.0 (and it's a heavy one, being a King Ranch) has a lifetime MPG of over 19. And I do mostly city driving. I hardly every touched that with my Tacoma on the highway.
