Hi folks, I'm new but signed up to ask this question. Been reading for a while and I appreciate all the good info given on this forum.

I'm torn between these two vehicles and feel like I pretty well understand the advantages and disadvantages to each (I know mid size vs full size, etc.) but lets say I can get the loaded out Silverado for right at $40,000 (I can) and the limited Tacoma is going to be just a little less than that so very much close in price.

I was initially only looking at the Tacoma because I want to be able to park it in the garage but I test drove the new Silverado home the other day and checked it out and it actually does fit fine since my garage is just a hair longer than normal. That made the decision a bit harder.

The truck will be used to do some light trailer pulling but will mainly just be a daily vehicle. I also hunt a fish a good bit so the extra space of the Silverado would be good but the Tacoma would be better for getting around on the ranch in the winter (most of the year I ride around in a Polaris Ranger until its too cold). Also, the silverado definitely has a whole lot of bells and whistles that the Tacoma doesn't but that's not the end of the world to me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. This would be my first Tacoma but not my first Chevy.

I'm really kind of torn. I really do like the size of the Tacoma for driving but the for all other purposes the extra room in the chevy would be useful.

Ive had the same thought/s. I currently drive a 2002 Tacoma and have been waiting on the 2016. Where I hunt, its much easier to get around in my Tacoma. The guys with the full size trucks have problems as some of the "roads" are narrow. Just depends on hunting environment. My truck has been very good to me, so yes, I am a Tacoma fan. However, I've ridden in my fair share of Silverado's and boy do they ride NICE. I don't buy and sell/trade vehicles. I buy to keep and am not sure if the Silverado would have been as good to me. Any of your Chevys make it 13 years/250k miles with nothing but brakes/tires/fluids/hoses and one oxygen sensor replaced? If so, then I wouldn't have a problem with another.

You're probably right on that but still worth getting some extra input. If the Chevy was 55k it wouldn't even be a question but since I've got them super close in price its a tougher decision.

I can't comment on the Tacoma vs. Silverado question because I haven't owned either...yet. But I have owned a 1999 Chevy Tahoe and a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. The Tahoe (with only 130,000 miles) gave me nothing but problems (new alternator, new compressor, coolant leak, new rear end), hence why I bought the 4Runner. I just sold my 4Runner for what I bought it for after driving it for three years and putting over 20,000 miles on it. It gave me zero problems and has over 180,000 miles on it. I just saw the new owner driving it the other day so I know its still kicking. If you want to keep the truck a long time go with the Tacoma. If you plan on trading it in five years from now, the Chevy should hopefully hold up that long.

Why the Limited and LTZ packages if you don't care much for the accessories? Save some money and avoid those.

I do want leather seats and power windows and all. But theres a ton of stuff on the Chevy thats nice but its not a deal breaker. Like power floor pedals and air conditioned seats.

I also will look at an offroad but will have to add aftermarket leather. I'm not real into that though.

I would think long and hard about going to Chevy. Their quality has really gone to shit. To me, it sounds more like you should go with the Taco, depending on what you trailer. The Chevy powertrain is good, but everything around it is poor. Cab rattles, electronic failures, paint quality is all issues.

Yeah, I'd never get a midsize truck when all I needed/wanted was a midsize truck. I don't need the towing/hauling capacity, I like to off-road, I don't have any passengers, I use it as my daily driver in an urban area, and I like trucks that fit in my garage. So, I vote Chevy, or any full-size truck. Or anything else, as long as it's not a Tacoma.

It sounds to me like in your particular case you might be happier with the Chevy

Can we just do a find/replace from the other Taco/F150 thread with Silverado?

We should probably just have a stickied thread with subject, "2016 Tacoma vs anything else NOT in the midsize truck segment"
