TRD supercharger availability update

Ah, so I was right, it's a measurement that compensates for the extra mass of air by referring to the compression level as if that air was all at 1 atm. So basically saying that at 6 PSI our engines are getting close to a flat line number that may or may not apply. Like I said, the Ford Ecoboost 2.7 L is damn near pushing 30 PSI which would be an insane effective compression number. Then again, that engine was designed from scratch for those pressures and combustion volumes.

 

I'm sure a little TLC will fix that

 

That'll buff out, I fail to see the issue. Its a toyota, you'd still win the race and drive it home.

Effective Compression Ratio (ECR). It basically accounts for boost

(sqrt((boost+14.7)/14.7)) * CR = ECR

sqrt = square root

boost = psi of boost

CR = static compression ratio of the motor

ECR = effective compression ratio

 

So I had an ECR of 14.28 in my supercharged corolla, it ran like a beast tuned on 93.

Problem came when I moved to a new state, and only had 91 with octane booster. Then I shit out the bottom end.

That car was a 1zzfe, 10.5 compression with 12.5 boost. 5 large injectors etc.

 

Also with the TRD supercharger stock I get ECR of 11.86

TRD supercharger plus 2.85 pulley I get ECR of 12.56

Personally, and I am by no means an expert. Considering 93 octane fuel and a pig rich factory tune. 12.56 doesn't sound bad to me. I think its close to the limit, but not drastic.

Of course there are many people running that pulley and I have not seen any issues because of it, so its just a confidence boost

also, I can't speak knowledgeable on it but I know there are differences in the way static compression ratio and effective compression ratio applies.

I know 12.7 worked in a sohc honda motor on pump gas, but 12.7 is super high in the 22r.

And I know that mazda cars with skyactive can have up into the 14s for effective compression ratios while their static ratio is not nearly that high.

 

It's all in the intake, cylinder and fuel injection design. Not to mention the shape of the cams, the timing, the injection timing, yadda yadda yadda. That's why we see new engines every few years. The improvements in efficiency and pushing the knock resistance continues on. That 2.7 L Ford engine makes it's power with regular gas even though it's effective compression is insane at WOT.

The 22r is just old basically, the honda has a smaller bore, more efficient everything and plays better. The skyactive is modern.

The 1gr, is probably very close in tech to the 1zz.

 

Yeah, it's funny how quickly technology becomes old. Just yesterday I found my old 2004 Alero still driving around town. I found that car plenty powerful with the LA1, for what it was, and yet it only made 180 HP and 200 ft lbs of torque. Now I could go buy a Ford Fusion and the sub 2.5 L I4 engines in that car make the same amount of power and the V6 of similar displacement to the Alero makes 240 HP and 270 ft lbs of torque....

 

I am just the type of guy that likes the details of things before I take peoples word that you can add 30psi with no problems. Looking into the eco boost the truck runs stock at 12.5 psi. ECR of (13.6:1). They can bump it up to 29psi and get a ECR of (17.24:1). That's around top fuel dragsters! No idea how they pull that off.

 

Ford has put something like 5 million man hours of research into the Ecoboost engines. I'm guessing that's how. They know more about turbo's now than most companies know about their naturally aspirated engines.

 

Now all we need is a global market ranger with 5.0 ecoturd in the us. I would buy it.
