Supposed to arrive on the 15th got bogged down at distribution center. Break down. 4x2 no need for 4x4 in south tx for me. SR5 with appearance package. As well as towing package. OTD price was 31600. Not a big discount but I knew that going in. Now it's time to change the tires and get some tint. Now to the important stuff.
The front end/looks: looks better in person. The front end and bumper/lip look extremely pronounced in photos but not so much in person. As a person who didn't like the 2nd gen front end for years till it won me over I'm thinking this will be the same.
Ride: smooth. Very quit compared to 2nd gens I've driven or been in. Not a lot of harsh bounce but not any floating bounce either.
Interior: personally it feels like it should. Everything feels like it's in the proper place and within reach. Nothing feels cheap. No I don't feel like I'm in the lap of luxury but it is just right IMO. The ride height for me (5'9") is just right. If there is one complaint it's that with the wheel in the full tilt down position it is nearly an inch of clearance from the knee to the wheel. I like to sit so that my throttle leg and steering arm are near full extension. So that is a bit of an issue. I'll need to adjust.
The 3.5 engine AT: this is were it gets tricky. I drove about 50 miles last night on the way home. Made sure ETC was off and drove normally. I AM NOT a red light racer. I'm an early bird who leaves early and arrives on time. My life is more important than zooming through traffic and getting somewhere 5 minutes earlier. Having said that. The phrase of the engine feeling sluggish is true. But NOT because it lacks power but in the way that it shifts with ETC off. Without much throttle at take off the engine literally skips 1st gear. Then has an extremely short shift 3rd. You are going 35 and your already in 4th gear. Rpms at this point are around 1200. Sooo if you give it a little gas its sluggish because your in 4th and low rpm so the motor waits to see what your doing. A little gas and it stays in 4th. More gas and it drops to 3rd. Punch it and there's more than enough power. image.jpg
This is the info I was given when I got home. That's mostly city. Avg speed was 36 mph on the entune radio display. But. Turn the ETC off. And it feels completely different. Not changing the way I drove I turned ETC off and drove. No short shifts. Each gear change happened around 2500 rpms so if you don't care about losing maybe 1 mpg then turn the ETC on and you should be satisfied. I'll post more photos to this as I do some more stuff the the truck today. I can't speak to towing. I don't tow stuff (yet) but it came on the truck. Also. I'm not going to sit here and say I'm going to get 24+ mpg in this truck. Unless I start seeing it by my hand calculations. But I feel 23 is attainable unless you just have a lead foot. I'll try to answer any questions I can. As long as there in my knowledgeable realm. I'm not a motor head so I can't tell you in depth analysis. image.jpg

PlastiDipped the alloy wheels as well as the Tacoma side badge. Turned out better than expected. First dip job so was a bit nervous.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one quickly changing out the tires. When mine comes in, I'm stopping at Discount Tire on the way home. lol

May I ask how much they gave you on the tire trade-in (if you went that route)?

Only 125 I could sell them for more or be stuck with them if they didn't. So I let them take them.

Hmm, the quote I got over the phone (for the firestones) was $50/tire. It will be interesting to see what I really get for them. lol

Awesome! Congrats on the new toy. Great tire selection. I'm a fan of Coopers. Ran them on the Jeep!

Yea I'm sure I could have sold these but I hate having them not sell and get stuck with them.
