For many of us, the Tundra was not competitive with the domestic offerings. Much more "imposing" size (all are full-size, but to me the Tundra was more work to drive than the rest), HORRIBLE MPG, and the interior was not as functional or comfortable as the other trucks. Finally, it's quality doesn't appear the Tundra has substantially better quality than the domestics, at least not enough to outweigh the other negatives. I drove the Tundra once, and that was enough to cross it off the list for me.

That and the body-style looks like it is having an allergic reaction to something.

I'm with you on the interior ;)
NOTHING compares to that King Ranch interior. I'm totes jelly of you man.

Toyota frame will rust away. They can also be had cheaper than the Tacoma's. F150 for me

Like PB65stang said below. I looked at Tundras getting 15mpg while my F150 was rated at 19 combined. (17-23 city-highway) People said that was unrealistic, but it was still better than the Tundra. Power was similar with the 5.7 V8 Tundra putting out 381hp and 401 ft-lbs vs 375 and 420 on the F150. Fords have tuners, and I haven't seen any useful one for Toyotas in general. I could get at least 50hp and 70 lbs from a tuner while getting another 3 mpg. Real world I get 18-19 mpg when I'm not on the turbos all the time, and 22mpg on long trips so I'm actually getting EPA ratings. Unlike the Tundras whom I heard get even less than 15 in the real world.

Plus looking at them, they didn't have half the features I could get in my F150. There's also the whole idea of why buy another truck from a company with 2 generations of frame rot? That really made me lose confidence in Toyota. (My 98 Corolla handled rust better than this "offroad" truck.)

God... that shitty gas mileage. That alone made me think "wtf is Toyota doing to improve each model year? Oh yeah, cosmetic shit." Aside from the features in the 2016 Tacoma (crawl mode anyone?), have they *really* made any improvements over the years? If Ford can make an engine just as powerful as a V8 get better gas mileage why isn't Toyota doing it? I started feeling like they were resting on their laurels, their long standing reputation, and had no real motivation to "move forward" as their slogan says. Made me decide it was time for a change.

 I could take or leave the looks of the Tundra. It really does nothing for me. I love looking at my F150 though. And the interior of the Tundras I looked at on the lot were so disappointing that I didn't even bother test driving one. I had already looked at an F150 and Sierra so I knew what the domestics were doing inside, and Toyota seemed stuck in the past. Why get myself into payments over an old, outdated truck with none of the tech others are offering? And the worst MPG of all of them on top of it! :annoyed:

So really, it's not "why not a Tundra?" but more of "why a Tundra?" at this point.

Man the hate for Tundras is strong in here! My average is 16mpg around town and about 19 on the highway, it's my commuter but my commute is very short.

Its really the MPG's I gather. If Toyota did a better job there I think there would love. Its hard to argue with the reported 20+ MPG's from the domestics in a full size.

Gotcha, mpg wasn't/isn't a concern for me, I love the new F-150's and still would consider trading the Tundra for one

And just to stir the pot, this was on the last rode trip we took in the Tundra

That's awesome! Sadly all I saw when I was looking was the window sticker, and forum posts claiming 15 was about the best you could get. I was already looking at $600-ish each month, no need to make it hurt more by raising my fuel bill too! I have a 20 mile commute up and over mountains, 5 days a week. Of course now I have a new job that lets me work from home as needed so.... LOL

Yeah that trip was on flat ground haha but still after two tanks I checked that, and was like sweet. But I totally understand if I commuted more I'd be all over a eco- boost!

I didn't read the whole thread because it's too damn long, but as someone who owns a 2013 Tacoma DCLB and a 2015 F150 Supercrew short box it really all depends on your needs. I'd say if you plan on spending most of your time in town, towing, or commuting get the F150. In those situations, to be frank, you won't notice the larger size of the F150, the fuel economy will be almost the same, and your truck will be much more capable. If you plan on doing much offroading or back country adventuring in tight spots get the Tacoma.

Either way you are buying a good truck :). I love both of ours for different reasons. I will say the F150 is a far better bang for your buck initially.

Yup, my F150 has you beat. I have pics in my media of 20 mpg plus off in town tanks and the 5.0 L 2015 F150 is actually faster off the line than the 5.7 L Tundra. I would of looked at the Tundra had it not had terrible average fuel economy reported back from IRL drivers and a much higher price point than the F150. The two are also within a few percent of each other on depreciation here.

That's one thing I noticed when I was test driving all the full sizes is the 5.0 was slightly more comfortable riding and quicker off the line. Idk what's actually faster though. All I know is you and I can both beat a GM 5.3 all day long!

As stated before, I like the F150 but have been burned by too many dealers. Midsized trucks are also my size.

    nothing cool
OP, go ask this same question in the F150 forum and see what they say. I'll bet they say, " if you need a full size get the F150. And if you want a midsize, wait for the new Ford Ranger".

The 5.3 L is slow as ass. I'm not sure how GM manages to call that engine good for anything. It's only slightly more fuel efficient than a 5.0 L and produces much less power. In order to get power you have to go up to the 6.2 L GM, which is terrible on gas in town.

F150nation.com can get slow at times, especially compared to GM forums. It's mainly because Ford owners aren't scrambling to fix issues or trying to swap their engines to gain more power lol.

I think I have a total of 3 posts on there.
