    Happy Birthday (yesterday) Mike!

I ended up getting sick and spent the day in bed, so sorry about the belatedness.

I've got "nerf" (step) bars and am moving to sliders.

The step bars, in my opinion, look good. They give the (shorter) girlfriend something to stand on when getting in. They do not protect the rocker panels or doors in any way.

Sliders will protect the rockers and doors from getting damaged by rocks, shopping carts, car doors, etc because they stick out from the body a little bit, keeping things away from your truck.

We'll have to see how this works out for the girlfriend. :)

That's the boat I'm in. I have running boards on now. They do not protect and are more of a tripping hazard than anything else... They get in the way that's why I was leaning towards the step bars. So at least I could help the girlfriend and my mom out. But I have found some relentless fabrication sliders that I really like.

This is what I have now. Do the nerf steps give you the ability to use a hi lift?

The hi lift won't care... But your truck won't appreciate it as the Nerf bar gets smashed up into the door

So from what I'm getting the rock sliders are the safe way to go.

    Thanks guys!

What you have are basically nerf bars (side steps). So yeah sliders if you want to be able to use a hilift.

Just to elaborate on this answer - nerfs aren't designed to be able to hold the weight of your truck. As the hi lift applies upwards pressure and will bend, resulting in...well...see above.

Okay that makes sense. Do you recommend I get bolt on or weld on? I can bolt them in myself but I do not know how to weld so would end up having to pay someone to do that... But the difference in price that I found was $250 cheaper for the weld on's than for the bolt on's.

    That's a nice bike...

The santa cruz seems to be priced fairly though... according to that website...
    But monies
    Weld ons are stronger.

Yeah, I mean I don't think I would pay over $800 for any bike older than 2010... I mean you could probably get that endure for 1300$ and be a great bike. What do you plan on doing? Downhill? XC? etc

That's completely up to you. If you go bolt-on, you'd need to have super strong bolts...I think they are called Grade 8. I'm going with weld-on as I'll probably never want to take them off. And if I ever do, welds CAN be cut. The guy that fixed my boat trailer proved that. The right wheel on an angle grinder makes quite the pretty spark show.

So, save $250 for the weld-ons, but have to pay someone to do it, which may cost up to $250 or bolt-on. Do your research - call around to some welding/fab places and see what they would charge.

I had made a promise to myself two weeks ago that I would not spend any money on my truck next month...and here I am contemplating ordering a relentless DIY bumper kit.
