I drive a gas guzzling 4.0L V6...who am I to judge. We have created a world, it seems, in which the only way to stay ahead is to cheat. VW got caught, much like Ben Johnson, Lance Armstrong etc etc.

It can't get much sillier than this debate. BTW according to the math the VW TDI's are putting out 30 times the NOx of a Tacoma or F150. So the debate that it's not a big deal cause trucks is just BS.

The point of this thread is the VW was smart enough to circumvent EPA testing with some programming and got caught. Period. You can bet other companies are being looked at right now. VW should get nailed to the wall. What they did deliberately circumvented federal emissions laws.

As for the EPA ruining that river, yes they did. They were trying to add a bleed off point for a really nasty tailings pond that should never of been there in the first place. It's not just the EPA's fault. Yes, they were the people that caused the incident, but maybe if we cared about the environment 100 years ago like we did now none of that would of happened. Anyways, none of that has anything to do with VW, so who gives a shit. Open another thread to bitch about the EPA. That's not what this is about.

If you love Diesel, yes, this is bad. It will lead to tighter testing and that could expose more companies that are on the bubble. Still, the rules are the rules for a ton of extremely good reasons namely that NOx IS SMOG. No one wants to breath that shit no matter how many of them mpg's you can get. So leave that argument alone.

As for Diesels producing less CO2 than gas per mile that is 100 percent true for similar sized vehicles. Only problem is that Diesel is dirtier in every other way. As I've said about 100x on this site, pick you poison.

I don't think anyone is defending VW per say, but EPA downplayed their shit and that's that. So, it's a little ironic that their going after VW with such an iron fist. Scape goats are a wonderful thing. It also seems VAG of cars are not the only ones being scrutinized, the emissions on the BMW X3 seem to be higher then permissible.

Like I said earlier in this thread, it seems we've created a society in which the only way to get ahead is to cheat. Some are better at it then others....

That said sterdog, you make a good argument. No sarcasm intended.
