Has Toyota gotten their act together with their frame builds?

I was at the The Eastern States Exposition (West Springfield MA) yesterday & looked over the Chevy truck display.

As much as I wanted to hate the Government Motors product, they looked pretty good.

I took a close look at the suspension & frame. When I ran my fingernail across the frame I scraped off a black wax film. It seems GM dips/sprays their frames!

Why can't Toyota get their act together or have they?

For the few dollars cost per vehicle, it would save them in the future.

All Tacoma frames come from the same place, I just got mine replaced and brand new frame has raw steel visible because Toyota missed with paint. In essence if you are in New England, either keep truck in constant oil bath and kill environment, or expect truck to last 6-9 years and than become salvage.

Excellent idea with the oil bath....but some oils are biodegradable and completely non toxic to animals and do not pollute wells and ground water. That's what we use . Another great product is boiled linseed oil. Clear or with pigment if you like the look.....also biodegrable. There are alternatives my good man

Let me also comment on the 6-9 year time frame. That is exactly right for all trucks. A friend just showed me his 8 year old GM Dramax 3/4 which cost over $45 k new 8 years ago. Frame is rusted badly, fenders rotted, rear bed supports are gone Rockers were fix to pass this year's inspection, bottom of doors fixed two years ago and front fender liners completely rusted and flapping in the wind. It isn't just a Toyota problem in heavily salted areas, His truck with that great motor and just $120 k is worth zilch.

Maybe, an aluminum ford with just the frame to keep after...and the mechanics....

The only safe oil is one you can eat.if you can not consume it than its not safe.
So that would be peanut oil, sunflower oil, olive oil. Anything else poison and a reason why most our lakes and rivers have not eatable fish.
I am pretty sure some of the states already have laws against that.

Same shit as always they just powder coat them. It's not actually liquid paint they bake the powder coat on it. It does not stick good to welds. The only thing they can do do is por 15 them and they are a Business they don't want cars or trucks to last 20 years about 10 years is how long they want because everybody almost need a car. If a car would last forever they would be out of business

Oh Please! Bury your head in the sand much?

My 03 Xterra is still clean & free of rust except the ears on the rear frame where the body shop repaired the frame from a collision.
