V6 Tow Package mandatory TRD Off Road?

Ordered a new 2016 TRD OR 4x4 dealer said that the v6 tow package comes with it regardless? Anyone hear the same or know what to look for to make sure it does or does not have it when it comes?

 

I believe all TRDs and maybe 6 cyl SR5s all come with the Tow package from the factory since the alternator, battery and transmission coolers need to be added. Actually its a good option. I would want it even if I didn't tow.

 

I wanted the option but they didnt mark it on the order. They said it was included with the price.

 

Why does it "need" to be added?

 

When I was building TRD Sports, it said the V6 Tow package had to be added once I clicked on the color Black. Later on when I built another one and made it white, it never added it. That's weird that they would make certain colors mandatory for the tow package.

The toyota build only let's you go as far as the inventory around you. Not a true customized range of options.

 

I don't think the site is "fully operational" yet. I built and priced a TRD OR earlier, now it won't let me build the same truck again. I hope IT is working on it.

 

It seems like the webpage only lets you build Trucks that are available in your area.The Truck you built earlier might have sold. Kind of a stupid webpage. You should be able to build and combination, if there isn't one in your area simply order one.
Toyota needs to upgrade their internet.

 

I had no trouble ordering (through a dealer) a 2016 TRD OR 4x4 with no towing package. I do think most of the 2016 OR Tacomas being sent as allocated vehicles to dealers have the tow package, though. You might have to find a dealer willing to order your truck, rather than a dealer trying to sell you one from their allocated stock.

And why is that if you're not going to tow?

 

Bigger alternator, fluid coolers, more fluids.

 

I don't see how a bigger alternator is useful unless you will be putting a bigger load on it.

As for oil and ATF coolers, I have to wonder if they might not even be harmful if you don't plan to place the engine under sustained heavy load. It is known that 90% or so of engine wear occurs when oil is too cool, not when too hot. So the most wear occurs between start-up and the time when lubricants reach normal operating temperature. With extra coolers and more lubricant, might not that time be extended? Even if this doesn't, as a practical matter, happen, what benefit are these coolers as long as lubricants don't exceed their normal operating temperatures? And why would lubricants exceed normal operating temperatures as long as the engine isn't pulling a large load?

For these reasons, I decided that as long as I didn't plan to tow, the package was either of no benefit or, less likely, might actually be harmful.

 

A tow package is one of those things that's better to have and not need, rather than to need and not have. Tocomas aren't famous for being heavy haulers, so you don't really have to haul a very heavy load under very adverse conditions to be appreciative of all the help you can get. If a tow package is an option on your truck, get it and be proud of it. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks,ryanjboutin. I was considering editing my post. Now I don't have to. I idle my engine to keep the cab cool for sometimes an hour at the time. I'm sure the extra coolant helps that.

 

The tow package doesn't include extra coolant capacity. It only has oil and ATF coolers.
