Scheduled Maintenance (2nd gen) - 30,000 - 60,000 - 90,000 miles

Lately there have been some discussion of the 30,000 mile schedule maintenance items. So with that in mind I have consolidated all of these items (with the permission of the chris4x4, brianr, and lsocoee) onto a central web site. This is not meant to take anything away for TW, but I know at times people have a hard time using the search function of the site. It may seem kind of redundant to some but hopefully some will find it useful. As you can see on the site my local dealer wanted $400 for the 60,000 mile service but I was able to buy all the materials for about $100 and save $300. Anyways hope this helps, and thanks again to chris4x4 who did all of the hard work, I just reposted it.

Thanks for this post. I'm getting close to 60K miles and really wanted to do the maintenance myself instead of taking my Tacoma to the dealer. I just joined the forum today, and am glad I did.

Nice job!!! I can handle most of that expect the plugs and rotation... ( no jack stands) ???? why do plugs need replaced at 30k???? seems odd.... My 2006 TRD access cab is currently at 26800.0 I too hate to drop $399 at my dealer....

 

This is awesome. I'm right around 25k right now and the dealer quoted me at $440 to do the maintenance. My only problem/concern is the kind of tools I'll need. This'll be the first time I'll be doing things on my own to this truck and I'm lacking on some tools etc.

 

The plugs are pretty simple. Just get your self a decent socket set that has a spark plug socket and pick up a spark plug gapper and you are all set.

You only need simple hand mechanic tools. A good socket set and an oil filter wrench. Not sure what size just take your filter to the parts store to find one that fits.

 

Thanks for link! looks to be very helpful. My question is for someone who doesn't have much background in doing this, would it be difficult? I'm always trying to save money and by doing self maintenance, it seems to be the way to go! I'm just concerned on the difficulty.

 

Would doing the 30k maintenance myself have any effect on my warranty?

"For you guy like me w/ the Sport model, you'll need a 4oz. tube of LSD additive."


What is different about the sport that requires this additive?

As long as you keep your receipts (i also write down the mileage, and date) and the service i did in the back of the owners manual

 

Hey, I took what harshest did, and turned all the write-ups into .pdf files so I can save them on my computer (I don't like trusting my internet connection, so I like having a back up). I did have to take out the credits and shrink down the pictures on some of them, just so I could keep the file sizes down, but everything is still visible, and the credit has been given. I put all this in a Maintenance folder on my desktop, with an Excel Spreadsheet for what has been done, including costs. I can post that up here too if anyone is interested. Here are the files:
