Can get my truck now with everything except jbl upgrade. Anyone heard both in the 2016? Dealer is unsure when it will be available. Is the non jbl premium system crisp? Does the jbl just change head unit and add sub? Or does it change out all speakers and add seperate tweeters, mids, and lows?

Not sure what to do. Sucks buying with out testing first

You'll love the 45 watt max sub if you love dubstep. It will really bump

JBL adds AMP and SUB. IMO after hearing both I spent the extra $700 and ordered the JBL. I don't want to deal with After Market as the entertainment unit is tied into the TFT screen behind the wheel so the best one can get without going after Market is the JBL system. There IS a difference.

Well. I'm in waiting mode again. I'm with you on not wanting aftermarket. My biggest issue is no one really knows when components will become available. Could be days or months.

I would wait it out. You are going to have the truck a long time. I know if mine comes in without the FP package I am punting and will wait for the JBL. It's that important to me.

How hard would it be to tie in an aftermarket amp and sub anyway. I've never heard the jbl but I'm the kind of guy that has always had a 12" in my ride. I like a lot of bass.

Any quick DIY fixes for this? I just wedge a towel between the sub enclosure and the backseat, which helps a lot but....

The non JBL system is not bad, but the low end is somewhat muffled and not what you would strive for. Down the road, I may update that with better speakers/amp - keeping the stock head unit as I like the integration it provides.

Hey man, was wondering about the premium audio vs the JBL knobs on the radio. Is one on top and JBL on bottom or both on bottom?

How difficult would it be to upgrade the sub and amp

It costs extra money to take up valuable storage space. No thanks for me

They install the factory amp and sub in the walls of the truck. I am sure you can find something compatible.

Installed my first dimple then removed it.
Dangit now I am curious about where exactly my sub is. The JBL system sounds great, and it dosen't seem like the sub is behind the rear seat.

The sub and amp is located behind the back seat's back rest (right side) when it is folded down. It takes up a little bit of the storage space.

I went ahead and ordered the JBL package for resale value purposes and for the better than "basic" audio. Also plan on putting Dynomat in the cabin wall and doors for even less road noise.

The JBL system also incorporates actual JBL door speakers. It's top notch, hands down. Also, you have piece of mind knowing you don't have to undertake in any chopping and screwing that's associated with an aftermarket install. Nice, clean, factory JBL. http://www.jbl.com/content?ContentID=toyota-tacoma-us

I have an 06 with the JBL system. I know it would be a difference of 10 years. But I found my JBL system to be very weak. Couldn't tell if there was a sub in there. I switched out to an aftermarket head unit and it woke up very nice. I would like to switch out the sub for something that can handle a little more, but that is more of a headache than I thought.

I believe the exact makeup was switched around from year to year. The JBL in my (now sold) 2015 sounds better than some quality aftermarket installs.

My 09 thumps like nobody's business. I love it. My wife's new Lexus NX F-Sport doesn't have nearly the sound that my Tacoma has. I'm a couple years out from getting a new one, say 2018 (its nice not having payments), but judging by these reviews, I'll definitely be getting the JBL again!
Yes!! It really does. For a factory install, I think its excellent and Bose has NOTHING on JBL. I've had a few Bose factory installs in my lifetime and I thought they were great at the time...UNTIL I bought my Tacoma. They all sucked...immensely so! JBL and Tacoma FTW!

Honestly, I was considering seeing if I could find the JBL system that Toyota puts in and just swapping the stock speakers for the JBLs. I don't know if I can do that yet but it will be way cheaper than the 3600 dollars to get it with the premium and tech package.
