Trying to figure what I can expect for diminished value on my 2015 TRD Sport 4x4...

My truck was hit in the parking lot this morning at the football game my daughter was cheering in.

Apparently a woman driving a Durango has no idea how to park and hit the side of my truck and the rear bumper of a Ford Fusion trying to get in a parking spot.

A police report was written and I contacted Allstate, which also happens to be the other driver's insurance.

Pretty pissed because this is the first vehicle I have ever purchased new. I bought her Feb. 14th and there are only 7k on the odometer.

I'm trying to figure out what the value of a wrecked vs un-wrecked Tacoma would be. And what I should expect/fight for on the diminished value.

The damage looks to be only to the driver's side front and rear door and the predator step. I briefly looked underneath and everything looks ok on the rocker panel.

I am setup to take it to Allstate's damage appraiser Tues morning but I think I should take it to the Toyota dealer Monday and get my own quote.

I've read that similar repairs have run about $2k.

Have any of you guys had to deal with a diminished value claim? Any tips or advice?

    Thanks for all the help!

Id go for it, when i was selling my dodge everyone was apprehensive about buying it due to a pilice report stating it was involved in a collision

Thought sliders would prevent something like this.

If the sliders were up that high you wouldn't be able to open the door..

Yep! Exactly!!! I'd spend a little more on a vehicle that had a clean record as opposed to one with an accident on it. I just don't know how to figure the value.

I read something online that mentioned going to a Carfax and asking trade in value as if it was un-wrecked and then asking for another after explaining the accident and damages. And the difference is what you should be paid.

Others recommended using some of these independent DV appraisers. But they range in cost from under $100 to closer to $1k! And some insurance companies won't accept the report unless they are accredited or something like that.

Sliders may prevent door dings... But not sure if they would've stopped the Durango's bumper!

I do think the steps actually protected the rocker panel a bit though!

I am definitely going to try and work some sliders into the deal... Take the cash from replacing the predator steps and put them towards a nice set of bolt-ons!

Don't see how you can get diminished value for dented doors :notsure: I'm interested to see the outcome. I can see it for major damage, but not for dented doors.

Well if and when I sell/trade it, I can't say that the truck has never been in accident. And because it has been in an accident, albeit a minor one, the dealer/buyer would not pay as much as they would for an un-wrecked truck.

I did something similar to this last year where I sideswiped a pole. Was about $3k for insurance with reusing the stock panels.

I have no idea about diminished value but like you said yes it has been in an 'accident' now and prospective buyers later on will use that against you.

I worked Auto Claims Division for Farmers insurance for several years. DV is for serious damages. Never hurts to try, just wanted to give you a heads up going in.

That happened to me 3 weeks after getting mine. Mine was just a little paint touch up to the bumper though. So I feel your pain.

I have seen some carfax where it shows minor damage rather than an accidents

You don't have to tell anyone it was in an accident. You'd be surprised how many private buyers don't pay for a carfax.

Its a shame you guys had to get a police report, could have got doors and had em resprayed for less then your deductable

It happened at county park and there was a police officer there at the game. He was already there when I came walking up.

And I will be filing under her policy, so no deductible for me!

They should completely replace those doors. Repairing them with only 7000 miles on the truck would be BS

You can try, but I seriously doubt you will get any diminished value...

The appraisal and aggravation will cost more than you will get for that minor damage.
