Spray your frame every year with Fluid Film. Problem solved.

With the millions of gallons of oil and parafin based surfactants we spray on crops every year I'm 100 percent sure a similar product like Fluid Film is safe for the environment. As for things you can drink being safe, did you know chemical reps in the 70's used to take shots of glyphosate to show people how safe it was. I wonder what people must think of that...

My 2010 Frontier's frame looks brand new. When my 2006 Tacoma was the same age it was thoroughly surface rusted, when I sold it 6 months ago it had some pretty flakey looking patches around the motor mounts and rear shocks.

We have master coils that rust just setting in the factory until they are put threw a press mainly surface rust but we let it go because we E COAT the steel after it is pressed in the tool die to form the part.

Almost all petroleum based oils/fuels will biodegrade, same with vegetable and animal based oils. The harm is when there are quantities spilled that migrate to surface or groundwater before biodegrading. When applied to a truck frame there really isnt enough to cause environmental problems if it passively washes off here and there over a year or two. Spill 50 gallons of the same stuff next to a well or near a surface water and there might be environmental/human health issues.

Work at Toyota, have seen frames being replaced, have seen some bare metal on new frames and thinking why did they not coat that before installation?

What is your point .....air has moisture, an electrolyte and O2 in it. Steel has some chromium and which limits the amount of oxidation that takes place compared to iron, an element . So steel will not rust as fast as iron which is not al alloy.that is why a carpenter will oil coat his blades that are not hardened. Newer steels are more rust resistant with the alloys they put into carpenter tools which are much more rust resistant then truck frames.
A carpenter can just throw a tarp ove his tools to minimize the rust damage as the dew in the air tends to fall vertically like rain.

I don't see the disagreement. You paint a cast iron stove or a steel wheel barrel with some chromium in it and neither rusts as it denies oxygen and water in the oxidation process. You guys must be pulling my leg. This is elementary chemistry. Though your frames are steel, a minimal amount of additional chromium could be added to make them more rust resistant. Not a easy feat as it changes other properties too.

It's the speed at which they degrade. 50 gallons of petroleum based products next to a well could do irrefutable harm.biodegradable G-oil from green oil manufactures is lard based and begins to decomposed immediately in contact with soil.

What ever happened to all those PRE - Tacoma Toyota trucks? They never had frame rust issues like we have now-a-days.

Somewhere along the lines - like every manufacturer & business on this planet - they take shortcuts, they buy inferior products/services, quality goes down so they can make higher profits.

Has nothing to do with rust......... but ALL to do with business decisions, parts/service costs are skyrocketing, & profits.

The biggest influence on whether your car/truck will rust are govt. mandates on body perforation and rust. The Car makers just respond to these requirements in a minimal way to maximize profit. If cars are mandated not to have body rust through damage for six years, car makers would not be too upset if it happened on year seven.

Parts and service including body parts reap as much profit for car makers and their suppliers as building the car itself.

True, but that was basically my point. No one is saying go dump fluid film into a water source. No one is dumping MSO in a river either. Used properly in their applications both products are harmless.

I really don't understand why Toyota does not do better on frame protection. The truck I had before was a 2001 GMC Sierra with 187,078 miles on it and the only rust it was where I smashed a hole in the rocker panel not even on the frame. In comparison to my 2015 Tacoma it has 13,500 miles and just spent a whole Saturday underneath the truck scrapping sanding and painting huge corrosion spots that were into the frame. Toyota needs to get their act together.
