I drove by the dealership tonight hoping my 2016 might be in a little early. It's not slated until the 28th, but sure enough, tucked away in the back of the inventory lot, I spotted three new 2016's. A MGM OR, a Silver OR ACLB, and my TRD OR SW! AC was the only one that wasn't sold.

I immediately messaged my sales person and asked him if he knew. He did not. He happened to be out of town and told me it still needs to be inspected cleaned up. ...so I have to wail until Monday morning.

I have to say, I was a on the fence with my decision to go super-white, but once I saw it in person all those fears quickly went away. As many have mentioned before, this truck looks MUCH better in person. Especially the grill.

I snapped a few pics since there are very few TRD-OR SW available so far....can't wait for Monday. The only thing I don't like is the chrome step tube...would much rather something black...going to try and get that swapped on Monday.

    Enjoy.

    UPDATE: 9/28/15

I was able to pick up my OR this morning. Overall the experience was fantastic. But then again, why wouldn't it be when I'm paying close to MSRP? ..or above , but I will get to that)

    Negotiations:

I hadn't planned on a trade, but after 2 deals fell through on my 2014 OR I wasn't in much of a position to "sit on it" so I went into the deal knowing I'd have to negotiate a trade deal. Here's what I ended up with.

    2016 Price $38,232 ($38,896 OTD)
    2014 Trade $29,500
    Net Diff $9,396

That price is under MSRP if you go by GST retail price with all the added bullshit at $39,531. However, Toyota MSRP is listed at 38,310 w/o all the add-on's (ball-mount, connectivity kit, carpet kit, Step Tubes, Protection package). So I landed somewhere in the middle. Regardless, that is a LOT for a mid-size pickup and about 6K more than I paid for my previous OR. Here's what a GST sticker looks like...It's a complete scam. $79.00 for a $10.00 ball mount! ...I played the game, it's a good thing these tacos keep their value so well.

    Delivery:

I looked closely at the paint and build quality and I couldn't find any of the things SCFast noted on his OR. The paint looked great and and found the interior fit and finish to be much better than the 2014 I just traded in. It felt roomier, definitely quieter, but not as quiet as I was expecting from all the other posts. On the highway there was still some A pillar wind noise, but it was not distracting at all.

I will post pics later...there were several things I found that haven't been covered on here yet like the trailer hook-up now has both style plugs and the way the bumper/tow package mounts.

    Tonneau Cover:

In short, not sure I like it. It's heavy a hell and takes up more than a third of the bed when it's folded up. Additionally, when it is folded up the hold down straps are not tight and I could see lots of rub wear occurring if I ran too long with it up.

    Sunroof:

I like it a lot. I'm 6'1" and I have at least two or three inches above my head. I was a little concerned about headroom, but that doesn't appear to be an issue.

    Trailer hook-up:

This is probably the least talked about "new feature", but I really appreciate it. I tow 17' chris-craft (3200 lbs) in the summer and it has the old 4-way plug. I can finally throw away that massive adapter. Plus, I really like that is up off the ground where it won't be covered in dirt and less likely to break off on the trails.

Nice truck. My last taco was super white and I loved it. I agree with you on the chrome boards they don't suit the truck as well as a darker set. Post some interior pics when you pick it up on Monday.

Nice! Congrats. I would say get them to swap the bars from the other OR truck but that ones sold too.

Super white and MGM still the 2 best colors in my opinion. Put some black rims on that thing and roll on.

Interior looked good through the window. Anxious to get in there.

Anyone have any advice on negotiating changing of factory options like step tubes?

They should swap tube steps w/o any expense. Worst acceptable case is they take them off, get you a black set and you put them on.

You should be able to negotiate a swap or take off of the tube steps. Monday is not to long to wait My super white i was waiting for came in yesterday morning and was ready to go by 9:45am but i had a different reaction....saw it and did not want it. You must have a lazy dealer not wanting to do PDI on the weekend.

    nothing cool
Get a wrench and swap w the MGM Taco before that owner shows up! Or, on a serious note maybe ask him if he wants to trade. Some people like chrome. Looks awesome.

Did I read that right? You did not want it???

It looks like he's in OK. Jim Norton is a big dealership in both Tulsa and OKC. Surely they would have the capabilities and resources to get the inspection, cleanup, etc done on a Saturday. The problem is they are closed on Sunday so I'm sure that backlogs their Saturday with incoming new cars.

They should swap the bars for you no problem, just make sure it's done before signing the papers.

Yes unfortunately you read that right liked the look and soft tailgate but once inside it was a no go it felt really cheap i told my wife to hop in a tell me what she thought. She started it fondled the knobs and such for a few minutes and said what i was thinking which felt good because i thought i was crazy lol on the upside the QI charger and color screen is cool and it also had dirt in the paint in several spots.
Ordered a '16 T4R trail then and there my dealer did not care since the will sell the taco for MSRP vs my invoice price.
Just to be clear no hate for the '16 and those who are buying them just my opinion...which is just that.

Good input. I personally haven't seen or been in one yet. Although, what you just said confirms my biggest fear. I didn't want to see corners cut on quality in regards to the feel and style of the interior.

Regarding the paint, was that a manufacturing defect?

The QI charger is a really cool feature. I'd like to not have to deal with a charging cable.

Yeah the dirt in the paint is a manufacturing issue. The super white is single stage and would be an easy fix with 1000g and a buff though. Others will feel differently or not care about the interior quality though so no hate.

One big difference is that one would expect that from GM.

I completely agree with @SCFast which is why I wanted to make sure he wasn't a prior Tacoma owner before he bought the Chevy. I think it was in another forum I asked that. I'm excited to see a 2016 and look for the points you mention.

As previously mentioned, I have not been near or even seen a 2016 yet in KS. I've only use the 2016 as a negotiation point when I bought my 2015.

Anyway, I hope the OP can get his Tacoma tomorrow. It's got to be so hard waiting for it.

Interesting. I'll be sure to take a close look at my paint...I haven't been in it yet, so I can't speak to the interior. I do have a Texas build, so I'm very curious to see if there is a difference in the quality of the builds. I started a USA vs MX thread a while back (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mexican-or-american-taco.391242/) and was quickly assured there would be no quality difference. Some of the reports I'm hearing have me wondering if that may not be the case.

1 - Reported hold in MX DCSB's (Never quite understood why or if this was legit)
2 - Mike33OR's sunroof not properly bolted in (MX Taco)
3 - SCfast report paint defects (Assuming MX since he is in CA)

No it's a Texas build. Should have taken photos. It also had some sort of black overspray looking stuff on the right fender Not rail dust or fallout and you could not get it off from rubbing with a finger or nail.
