    or was that you ?

Maybe a year later you'll respond ? Does that mean you pound flounder or does it mean that you sort flounder into pound sized increments?

I think it's pretty well established by now that the 37# is a factory mistake that's never been corrected.

As someone who actually had u-bolts come loose after a dealer tech replaced leaf pack,I can personally attest that the 37 is too low. I've been using 85 ft*lbf with excellent results for 6 years now..

Earlier this year I replaced the factory frowning worn out 4-leaf, with a hand built, by me, beefed Dakar pack.

My U-bolts weren't very tight. I torqued them to 80 ft/lbs. They haven't loosened up.

If the 37 ft/lbs is an error I'd think toyota would have issued a correction.

You would think common sense would apply here but it doesn't. I've personally reported the concern as an error within TIS. No response! I know others have have had similar results.

But you know what? Go ask any experienced drivetrain specialist, virtually all will laugh at the 37# value.

My truck is a 2014 with 20k on it.

Mine were so loose that I ended up using a short 1/2" drive ratchet to get them tight before final torquing with the torque wrench. I went with 80 ft lb.

I would consider Eaton to be a reliable authority on the subject of springs.

They publish this u-bolt torque chart.

The Toyota factory u-bolts have a rod diameter of 14mm according to some forum searching, which is 0.551". That value is larger than 1/2" but smaller than 9/16" (0.5625) on the chart. So that would put the recommended torque value for Toyota factory ubolts between 65 and 90 ft*lbf.

It turns out the All-Pro u-bolts on my truck are 9/16" diameter, and according to Eaton, they recommend 90 ft*lbf.

I like what they say, to retorque the u-bolts often. That seems to keep with Toyota's recommendation of torquing the drive shaft bolts every so often.

I didn't think to check the actual torque, but when I threw in a Wheelers AAL, taking off my OEM leafs was a cinch, U bolts came right off, so that tells me they weren't torqued very much. Retorqued to right around 80 :D

What's the torque on the drive shaft bolts? Is there a DIY write up? I'll be installing my 5100's this weekend and want to button everything else up since I'm under there already
