Which Truck Should I Buy???

Sorry to be blowing up the forum recently but I am in a dilemma.

So I have a 2014 sport right now that I love, but between gas and the payment it is more than I want to spend right now.
To fix this solution I was thinking of getting a used 4x4 regular cab. But then I realized they get about the same mpgs I'm getting in my v6.

To solve that problem I was thinking about getting a base low rider 5 lug Tacoma regular cab.


Now this is my dilemma... I hate the look of the 5 lug wheels so I would defiantly change them to something a little bigger, probably something similar to my stock sport wheels. If I did that would I see a big drop in mpgs?
Also I don't do anything to crazy in terms of off-roading but I occasionally will hit a trail or 2. Is my life going to suck with the rear wheel drive?

I think you should get a Corolla until you can afford what you want.

 

I seriously considered that, but I won't be happy without a truck.

It's not that I can't afford my current truck I would just rather save more each month.

 

I get 18 to 18.5. I recently started doing a lot more freeway driving for school and it went from 17 to my current 18.

I live in SoCal I don't know what cheap gas is lol

If you want to stay in the Toyota family see if you can get a 2015 prius c for 17k 46/53 mpg.

That's the new prices. Always check out the used as well or even lease something with promotions going on.

You're not going to gain much of anything by switching to a base, then you're going to spend money on different wheels and tires. Best case with any taco you'll get 20-23 mpgs which will not amount to jack shit for monthly savings unless you drive a ton. I think you should sell and then buy something cheaper and/or something that gets better mileage. Or just try to find another aspect of your life where you can cut costs.

I'm sure I could probably buy a used one cheaper correct?

 

Oh yeah definitely dump it man. $465 a month is a ton. Why are you leasing?? You could get a loan for a used second gen and cut those payments wayyyy down

 

Have you looked into what it takes to break your lease? They will usually heavily penalize you, $1000s. Then they will auction the truck and leave you liable for the difference, which will be $1000s again. It is loose loose. Leasing is a very poor idea, if you had purchased you could refinance and drop your payment or spread it over a longer term. Add that with the sales tax on the new vehicle purchase and you will be way behind. If you did it anyway, get a prerunner instead of a 5 lug so you wouldn't have to spend additional on the lift.

Edit: you might call around to switch insurance companies for some savings.

 

$465 a month for a lease? A payment on a new truck with zero down is pretty close to that. I guess it all depends on if you plan to keep one vehicle or like having that drain on your bank account indefinitely.

Speaking for myself, I bought my Tacoma when gas prices out west were well north of $3.50 a gallon and I drove an average of 20k miles per year the time(now it's 10k). I decided whether or not I wanted to pay that much for fuel by a simple question: Can I do what I want to do with a more efficient, less capable vehicle and enjoy doing it?

 

I could probably break even on a trade in right now.
I know that is why I want to dump it. I love the truck but 465 just seems like a ton for it. If I was paying that much to own the truck I wouldn't have a problem with the payments.

 

I have a guy for insurance so I pay almost next to nothing.
