Ooooo that's an interesting idea about the lines. Id planned on behind the grill...but it's a small grill.

Yep. This week will be the deciding factor on turbo or just supercharger for now.

It was an idea I was toying with for a while. Its a small grill but you don't need a big IC :notsure:

Turbo > Supercharger. Just saying :D

i know turbo is MUCH better.

But you can't argue with the simplicity of the supercharger. Could have it done in a weekend including the URD kit.

Turbo...not so much. all the tuning stuff you and josh are going through..not sure i wanna at this exact moment. I mean...id LOVE a turbo. But i could really use the power and i have 4 weeks left of the summer before the truck HAS to be running with 0 issues.

Closer to 12 months ... What I didnt like about the S/C and the URD kit wasnt it wasn't perfect. You get a "tune in the box" and many people still had issues with Pining in OD as the URD kit is tuned only for open loop. You need to do some closed loop tuning on the 7th injector to get it running right and get rid of the high load, low RPM ping. I don't know if the URD kit can tune closed loop so you may need a piggy back to tune it better.

I also didnt like how incredibly inefficient the S/C was as the engine speed went up. At 4-5k rpms, your intake temps are approaching 300F. Would def want/need a meth injection kit. The more I looked into the S/C, the more I didnt like it :notsure:

With proper planning, getting all the parts ready, you and one more can get your turbo installed in a day. You can run it just fine without a tune as long as you are careful on the throttle. Only down side is its very hard to find the URD port injector these days. Not a deal breaker, but the extra injectors really make tuning a breeze.

    Just my 2cents.

I agree haha if i could get the port tuner, id do the turbo in a heart beat. Stupid easy to tune with that thing. But no way in hell can you find one now. not that i have look especially hard yet. Literally decided to put rear shocks and t100 axle on hold and boost the taco like last friday. haha

Because im at elevation, im not worried about ping from a blower, even with the 2.1 pulley id be lucky to make 8 psi where i live with a blower.

And come on..me go easy on the truck? I couldn't do that haha espeically with a turbo. I have been pricing it out though and it is actually cheaper to turbo. Mostly..but again. The tune..so important and i just don't think i can work out the bugs fast enough. Which would mean id have to wait till xmas. not a huge deal breaker i guess..Which really is still a thought for me to do.

Still thinking about it. the intercooler is also key for me. I have 0 issues with cutting out the entire center section of the grill and having the IC poke out and be the "grill". but i have to have the AC. gets way way to god damn hot in the desert to not have AC haha so i like the steel lines idea there.

    If you find a port fueler...lemme know...haha

Turbo has been good since I figured out that my ebc wasn't adjusted properly. With a manual boost controller you should have 0 issues. Afr's are good as long as I don't redline it. You may experience inconsistent afr with the sc under high boost too. Turbo is my vote, plus you will already be getting bigger high flow headers. Look at gio's build too. He has your year grill.

Call Gadget. He has one left. Its listed at $2k or something so I think he's holding it until he finds a buyer he knows.

I'll be honest... if I could go back in time, I would have kept the rear mount setup and use an oil-less turbo and secure/armor the PHUCK out of that thing and also heatwrap the crap out of the whole exhaust pre-turbo to eliminate any extra lag< and that's only due to ease of installation and the ability to go back to stock, not because it gave me issues. Ive said it before, but the stock fuel system can and will support 5-6 psi with the FPR vac line hooked up to a boost source. Not sure how much boost your goal is, but you can have a sloppy but reliable 5-psi of boost with nothing more than the headers, turbo, WG, oil lines and exhaust... and a boost compatable ECU in your case.

see i red line all the time though..well..not all the time..but to do 75 im at 3400rpms...small gearing in the diffs.

Yea i could try..i posted on CT for a port fueler to see if anyone had one FS. Gadget knows my dad well, i think anyways. Kinda doubt it im sure he get pounded with questions all the time from people. But my dad bought one of the first UCONNS.

its at 1200 right now. I wonder if he would negotiate for it..He isn't very active on here is he.

A rear mount doesn't makes sense for me at this point. thought it would at one point.

You're all convincing me..if anything ill buy most the shit now and do it over Xmas. Still really want the port fueler for tuning though. Kicking myself for not getting one while they were available.

yea what did you do for your ECU? Find a 97 tacoma or 4runner?

97 4Runner ECU. WOT pulls at 5 psi stay at 11.5 AFR for me. Rear mount didn't make sense to me either (when I decided to go front mount), but looking back on everything I've gone through, it's not a horrible option if you go oil-less and weld up a heavy duty skid plate. The CX headers are very inexpensive though... and not of bad quality either. My intercooler piping isn't show quality, but it is pretty solid. If you need anything regarding the piping, let me know

I am worried about that. I have a plate bumper and winch. Will need the IC to be where the grill is and making it fit i think will be a challenge.

Chris, I'm getting my tune done. I called gadget and he was worthless with helping because I hadn't bought any urd product which is understanding i guess. Im putting in 42lb injectors and plug and play fic 6. Will it tune with that size injectors? And any other places I can look for links on tuning it? I took it to a dyno shop and they are going to get back to me today with pricing on the install and how much down time.
