This will all take a while to figure out. Everyone with a TDI should just let the chips fall where they will unless they need to sell.

People wanting to ditch a car from a manufacturer that has admitted to lying to them about performance and economy is no more irrational than the people who go off on the " I'll never buy a GM because bailout / big government / blame obama and cherry coke " rant but I agree , if I had one I would be waiting to see what the compensation outcome turns out to be

B/c regular coke is just not good enough. The cherry adds an extra burn.

And that extra burn is what vw owners feel :cookiemonster:

A friend of mine just bought a new diesel Golf about 8 months ago. He's not a happy camper.

Why? What about the car changed? He liked it enough to buy 8 months ago. What doesn't he like now?

I somewhat agree that a vehicle is possibility more risk on a daily basis...

But a home is a MUCH greater liability.

If the cars are going to get substantially less MPG with the emmisions systems operating to the emissions standards would be one thing that seems pretty obvious , also choosing a car that you believe to pollute less because of false claims by the manufacturer only to find out it's up to 40 times worse than advertised also seems less than difficult to grasp

He likes the car; he's just afraid they will dog it down to meet specs, and he loses some power and the 40 to 50 mpgs that he bought it for.

What my point comes down to is...

Life is full of risk. Every single material possession carrys risk of some level. It's all about ones level of acceptable risk.

As I've told dozens of potential homeowners over the past few decades...
Just because you can afford to buy that home, does not mean you can afford to own that home.

Same can be said for a car, boat, motorcycle, pool, etc.

Did you sell them a house stating that the insulation values were up to code when in fact you intentionally didn't put any insulation in the house ?

Cause that's kinda a more relevant comparrison than stating VW owners shouldn't complain about deliberately being lied to pre purchase about the performance of the vehicles because all material purchases carry risk

I never said the VW owners don't have a right to complain.
My position is, they liked the car when they bought it. Now because of the news they all of a sudden wsnt to sell.
    Media lemmings.

If the emmisions systems are mandated to be returned to running at the correct levels , MPG and performance both take a hit , plus , knowing you are contributing up to 40 times as much smog as you were lead to believe both mean the car is not going to be the same .

Some TDI owners bought because they thought their purchase was going to save the planet.

My friend is royally pissed. She ordered her VW and was supposed to take delivery of it this weekend, but now it's on hold until VW figures out what to do about the problem. I don't know purchase laws, can she back out of the deal since she hasn't taken possession of the vehicle and in light of the fraudulent claims from VW about the emissions/efficiency?

She's been a life-long VW fan and is now seriously looking at other brands, I wonder how many other customers like her they just lost.

What if you bought your new and the dealership actually sold it previously, took it back and changed the odo to make it look new. (As illegal as that is)

Would that change how you feel about your first "new vehicle purchase"?
