    The better coast
I'm assuming yes. And if the dealership doesn't allow her take it up the chain.

I bought my 1st new car at 19 years old. Many. Many moons ago. And dozens since. I believe I'm too wise for that to happen.

Quite the differance between emissions software and a "new" used car.

She also owns a 1969 Ford Galaxie with a 429 and has 4 more guns in her safe than I do, I don't think hippie applies to her.

She just really liked the TDI cars because they're fun to drive and get good mileage, but it looks like they're going to be seriously gimped in both departments now and she's just generally pissed with VW.

And after owning dozens of Chebbies, I'm generally pissed at GM.

I told her the only sensible option was the DD the Galaxie, but I guess she doesn't hate her bank account that much. :D

On a more serious note, I think she's looking hard at the Focus ST now, she was kind of curious about it before but went TDI because she loved her '01 so much.

    Totally agree

Your position on this matter is a moving target

TDI owners should accept that there is risk in any capital purchase

TDI owners have the right to complain

TDI owners should like their car as much now as they did before

TDI owners that want to get rid of their cars are media lemmings

I disagree most with the last point: it's not being a media lemming to want to get rid of the car. VW has two options in this:

    1) Change the code so that "emissions mode" is always on. This is most likely going to result in HP and MPG taking a nose dive.

    2) Install AdBlue systems on all the cars. Even if HP and MPG stays unaffected, where are they going to put it other than inside the cabin?

Both valid reasons for not wanting a TDI anymore because at this point it's NOT the car you bought.

Why should the TDI owners be responsible for a financial loss due to being lied to at time of purchase by VW

Agreed. It's also unfortunate that most likely no one with a tdi will be compensated appropriately the first time unless they are willing to sue.So in the case with my fiancé, who wouldn't take the time to sue, who isn't a hippy tree hugger.. She will end up losing money if she ever decides to sell.

Both can be..all depends. Your vehicle in theory can cost you your home. That said, in general my home is more a pain in the skull

That be it in a nutshell. My buddy buys a Golf, him and the wife think it's green, It gets awesome mileage, has good power, they still owe on it for a few years; only to find they got the Big Bratwurst from VW. This saga will go on for a while so they aren't panicking yet. They will go the wait and see route.

Because, as I posted...life is full of risk. Some suck up the losses and celebrate the gains.

But a promised sale from a dealership on what the car is and should get for gas mileage is not a stock market.. When you buy a car you expect to get exactly what your paying for on the write up sheet.

You're off base on this one

VW participated in a premeditated deceit of their customers and regulators , the only financial loss in this issue should be theirs
