    Hey guys,

i have been needing a truck for a while and decided i want a new 2016 tacoma.

Drove one today, not sure exactly which model, 4x2, 4 cylinder sr5, drove really nice.

I'm looking for a 4x4, but engine doesn't matter, for me i need the towing package because i plan on getting a boat, led and outlet for the bed and i think thats really it.

it would be nice to have the nav package but i could do without.

not sure if i should stick with sr5 and upgrade or get the TRD sport?

would like to stay under 35k

If you're pulling a boat then the engine should matter very much to you as power and towing capacities vary a lot. 6500 lbs with the V6 and only 3500 lbs with the I-4. Even if your boat is less than 3500, the V6 will haul it so much better. The I-4 may struggle. You're taking about a 120 hp difference!

Get the TRD Sort, you get so much more for not much more money. I ordered a 4x4 Access cab with tow package, step bars and the premium technology package (adds
Dual Zone Climate Control, heated front seats, rear parking sonar, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and auto-headlamps) and got it for $35,400.

Think I could get away with a 4x2? I'm in Florida and don't plan to use it off road, but will tow boat often

Get the 4x4. Some boat ramps are squirrley. And Some ramps have limited parking, you often park in the sand and weeds.

In my opinion, the SR Double Cab 4x4 V6 is one hell of a value for around $27K. Add the SR Connivence Package which will net you remote keyless entry and cruise control for around $500. Next add the tow package for around $700. Your talking about $28,200-ish. Hell, add those sweet optional SR black rims for around $400. You are still only at $28,600-ish.

SR. I am surprised how loaded it is considering it is the lowest model. The only thing it does not have that I would add is intermittent wipers. By all accounts on this board, it is super easy to add them yourself for pretty cheap. Pretty much a plug and play stalk. That is really all I would add.

I'd consider it if I could build a DCLB 4X4

Get the TRD Off Road. Better Suspension, Stronger Engine, Great Tow Package. Keep it there and you are at 34500 MSRP. You should be able to get it to 32500, 33000 at the top. Best Selection for your needs! Enjoy!!!

so i need some advice guys,

we found out today my wife lease, buyout is more than the car is currently worth and almost 5k over the value of it brand new.... Seems as if we are going to have to let that go. We were planning on paying that off and then i was going to get the truck.

Now she will get my old 08 focus and il still get a truck, but she is more of a fan of the Colorado.

I saw them today, while they are nice and offer way more features than the tacoma for the price, i feel the resale value and reliability maybe worth it.

The colorado, had tech package, tow package, leather seats, dual climate control, sound package etc

The tacoma sr5 i saw had nothing and were the same price, although i did get them to throw in the towing package, tint, and led bed light.

So the tacoma was 35k, and the Colorado was 36k

i feel more comfortable with the tacoma, has anyone had any experience with colorado?

Colorado= more features less relability Tacoma=less features but stellar reliabilty and resale. The consensus is that colorado owners trade in their trucks after 15-20k and buy a tacoma.

Any money you "save" by buying a Chevy will easily be lost in repair bills. Go for the reliability and the resell value.

I don't get why "resale value" is a huge selling point. If the truck you are buying is something you want to keep for 300k miles, when exactly does resale value help you with anything?

Also, if you save money on buying the truck by a few thousand dollars because GM usually discounts their vehicles, and the Tacoma is worth a few thousand more at the same mileage in their lives compared to each other, then it's a wash (IF you actually sell the Tacoma and claim that money.)

Add to the fact that this "reliability" debate is based on what exactly? Both are relatively new engines and neither have been tested for very long yet. And the GM product warranties theirs for 100k miles vs Toyota at 60k. So IF there are repairs, it doesn't even cost you anything in the GM if it comes before 100k miles.

There are hard core Toyota owners that will drive their trucks until 200k+; however, I would say the odds are like most Americans the truck will be traded in on something new/newer much sooner than that. Regardless, resale value is important at all stages of a vehicles life unless your rich and don't care. This is not even a debatable argument.

As far as reliability/quality is concerned we can only go based on what the manufacturers track record has been for the last 15-20 years as well as current reviews. GM has been average at best while Toyota has been stellar comparatively speaking in this regard. Initial quality means dick if you love the truck the day you buy it and then trade it in a year later because you now hate it. The GM engine 'may' last 200k, but a bunch of other inferior components typically fail in GM products. All I know is that the single most important factor for me when getting into a vehicle is that I will reliably make it to my destination. The peace of mind alone is priceless. If you don't mind fixing shit more often, then buy a GM.. I'm happy for you. I however can not spare the time or headache's for such inconveniences.

I don't think the pricing is as far apart as you claim. In my research the two trucks are very competitively priced. GM will take some off the top for a GM twin, but they don't heavily discount them like their full size counterparts; and in many cases the GM is priced higher initially.

If you want to have an argument between the two, then make it over the base model engines; at least that's relevant.

well i am not planning on keeping a truck of that long, maybe 100k at most, probably only 5 years and then will trade it in. Tacos hold about 70% value at 5 years, thats really not too bad. If i pay 30 k i can expect to get about 22-23 back, only lose a down payment is really not too bad.

I test drove both a 2015 tacoma and a 2015 colorado, and the Tacoma just felt more me. So I now have a 2015 Tacoma.

I am a fan of having 4wd and I ll sacrifice some bells and whistles to get a 4x4. I think for a RWD it's overpriced???

    image.jpg

    I built this at toyota.com its a 4door 4x4 with tow package.
