I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Because it's very easy to bend. Have you seen what it looks like without the cover? It's scary, it's just a few thin strips of metal. Your lucky you didn't bend yours. Many people on here have bent theirs. That's why I have the Relentless tailgate protector on mine. Here's a pic

i've got mine reinfoced now too, but i was pleasantly surprised after everything i had read. that was a good couple hundred lb's on the tailgate, i don't anticipate ever having more than that

meh.. sounds like the op got more of a personal issue with his anal.. and pretty sum up he didn't do his homework right. Mine .. taco 2014 got no issue, just minor stuff which I can live with until it mod or replace down the road.. I already done the most important ones such as rear breather, backup lights, ac unit drain line, tailgate reforcement, different tires.

Whaaaaaat? Anymore info on this? I have the "Tacoma Tick", as I call it, but I'd like to know more just in case. Can anyone elaborate?

It's a horrible noise at startup, usually cold starts. @scottalot can elaborate.

Most of your complaints are easy fixes. Have you drove other trucks like the Frontier and seen the build quality on it?

    1. Sound deaden. Also lots of trucks are not luxury vehicles and are rather loud. You want quite get a nice car or SUV.
    2. This can be programmed by dealer to fix typically. If not aftermarket alarm.
    3. Seats are shitty. No argument there.
    4. Mine does this too. It just needs to be adjusted. Takes less than 15 min.
    5. Never had issues with tailgate. Loaded sport bikes off of it, me and my buddy sat on the tailgate and he's 300 I'm 180.
    6. Can't comment. Never used defrost before.
    7. So it's Toyota's fault for you having big ass sandwich grabbing fingers?
    8. Again its Toyota's fault for you putting bigger tires on.... Damn them.

Well I don't think I have it then thank god. However, I'm going to go home and get a hammer and try to find a duck, just so I'm sure.

I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport LB and use ramps on the tailgate to load and carry a battery powered Golf Cart 25 miles to the camp ground. I used to own a 2013 SR5 AC and did the same thing. No issue at all with the tailgate and golf cart weighs 850 pds.

I've had myself, wife and kids all on my 2013 tailgate (I can't imagine there's much, if any difference) without issues. I'm 210, wife is 110, and kids are about 25/ea. Granted we were spread across it, but my wife and I were in the middle.

I don't have a problem with the opinions and reviews. Not every vehicle is perfect or will be perfect. I too have things I wished the truck had more sometimes, but so far I've felt most of my issues/concerns can be fixed with the knowledge from TW. I too was worried about HP, because my truck felt slow for the first few months, but now it doesn't seem as slow. I can merge on highways just fine and surprise a fart can car once in a while. Sure, it's no drag car, but I never bought it to be one. As far as the seats go, on short drives they do drive me nuts, I cannot get comfortable. But, on 2 long distance drives I was fine and comfy.

However; I did look at the truck long enough and drove it enough during the test drive to know it was missing certain comforts and lacked in power. I knew the tailgate felt weak, I knew what the engine sounded like, I knew about the controls on the radio, and I knew there was not a defrost option on the back window. I won't buy a vehicle without knowing much about it.

^^ This. I put on the same size tires (Toyo Open Country AT2) on my taco which already has a super charger but it feels sluggish compared to before. I expected performance to take a hit due to the fact i added 14 pounds of rubber to each wheel as well as a bigger diameter tire that the engine has to spin but I didn't expect it to feel this sluggish. Re-gearing to 4.56 is now in my future. If you want the performance back, you'll either have to regear or get some smaller / lighter tires.

Had mine '15 for a month as well:

    • The truck sounds like an electric weed whacker.
    I don't hear it. It's quiet. I like it.
    • The auto lock after remote unlock is way too quick
Doesn't seem to be any worse than my 2008 4Runner that I traded, so not an issue.
    • My driver's seat sucks...it's not very comfortable to begin with and I'm pretty sure a spring is broken in it already because it feels funny. No clue why...I'm 180 pounds.
I'm 185 and these are huge improvement over the 2008 4Runner 4 me. Try changing seat positions?
    • My windshield wipers are malfunctioning. I'm going to get it checked at first oil change, but when the wiper comes down while on intermittent the wipers bounces back up a few inches.
    Dealer time.
    • The tailgate is weaker than the one on my side by side.
Don't know what that means, but I walked and jumped on and off of mine.
    • No rear defrost.
I guess that could be a problem, will know once winter comes. Didn't think of it, but it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me.
    • Touchscreen is way too small for my big fingers.
I guess it could be an issue. I have average sized hands and it's perfect for me.
    • Here's the big one....MAJOR lack of power since I put on 285/75/16. The truck barely gets up and goes and I pretty much can't use cruise control (which I like) because it downshifts constantly pretty much anytime you're not going downhill
Oversize tires will affect any vehicle.
