My quick write up of my new Tacoma TRD Sport Magnetic Gray Metallic with Graphite Interior and the premium & Technology JBL package.

This is the first Toyota I have owned; my previous daily driver was a Volvo S40 T5 AWD and I still own a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude with the Hemi V8.

This car has been awesome so far, I have been very pleased. I was a little worried before it showed up (since I never got to test drive or see one in person) that it would sit low to the ground like I have seen many Tacoma’s do before. When I first saw it I was very very pleased with the look, I have been asked if I already had it lifted as it looks a lot higher off the ground then others do. My initial impression driving is that the truck drives very smooth, like others have reported if you are not punching it, it feels sluggish, but if you do get into it from a dead stop it gets up and moves quickly. I have put 133 miles on it so far and have not been bothered at all yet by the shift points or the power while driving.

If you drive with the flow of traffic the shift points from stop light to 45 mph is: 10 mph 25 mph 35 mph and then again at 45 mph.

The truck is shockingly quite while driving on the freeway. My wife and I were able to have a conversation with no problem; you could hear a pin drop. It was a lot more quite then my Volvo and Grand Cherokee.

The interior is awesome; my wife’s first comment was how she likes the interior and especially the stock head unit more than my mother’s BMW. The features are very nice. The display is crisp and responsive. It does just what you want it too. Last night I had 4 adults in the truck as we went to a show, one of the adults in the back is 6’2” and 220lbs and fit back there just fine. I am sure on a 5+ hour drive it would get a little cramped but he kept saying he was surprisingly comfortable and felt like he had plenty of room.

I did not want a sunroof as I do not like them, but it was included in the premium package I wanted (wife demanded heated seats here in Salt Lake City, Utah) but after two days I don’t think the sunroof is bad at all. I am 6 feet tall and have at least 5-6” above my head to the sunroof. Also I have no problem with the seating position of the seats. It’s very comfortable and roomy. Some have complained about foot room on the driver side and where to put their left foot and such and I found no problems with anything in the driver position.

After two days and 133 miles I am averaging 20.3 MPG and that included about 70% city roads and 30% highway driving. It also included sitting in the car playing with the features for 20 minutes while the engine was running. Also the AC works EXTREAMLY well, that car got so cold very quickly.

I have always wanted a Tacoma and this is my first Toyota ( family has always had ¾ Diesel and V8 trucks) and am so far very pleased with this truck and am glad I purchased it. No regrets at all. Also if you can use Costco to purchase your car because they wont budge of MSRP do it. My dealers Costco pricing on the truck I bought (each dealer is different and each car is different with Costco) was $400 over invoice.

    Enjoy the pictures.

Bad. Ass. I've been flipping back and forth between Gray and Blue, then the Wife made it even more difficult by liking Inferno and getting me to consider it as well. I've finally settled on gray I think. It just looks so classic and sleek. Also, resale will likely be easier down the road.

Good to hear about the Costco program, we are not getting any price movement here in So Cal.

Too funny... sounded like the conversation I had with my wife. In my case, she is the one that wants the more classic look of the gray where I am looking at the Inferno as my first option. Availability will most likely dictate what we end up with (gray)...

EDIT: Fogot to congratulate you on your new truck!! Enjoy it in good health for many trouble-free miles!!!

Congrats on your truck! That's weird it has Firestones. All the other 4x4 Sports I've seen have had Toyos. Guess they're using two different tires. Maybe it's the plant they're built at?!?

Great write up and pics! I have a few of questions - do you like the fabric on the seats? Does it feel like it's going to last a long time? How big is the disparity in color temperature between the halogen headlights and LED daytime running lights? In pics it doesn't look too different, but that could be a trick of the camera. It bothers me when I have yellow headlights and white DRLs.

If you don't mind, what was the final selling price as compared to MSRP using the Costco figure? In short, what was the $400 over invoice price?
    Thanks, congrats, and enjoy!!

I have not had fabric seats in 10 years and so far i like it very much. Feels really tough and not cheap. I expect them to last a long time.
The LED are really white and the headlights are in the middle of white and yellow. if you get a foot away and look at it you notice the color difference but at night from 20 ft away you don't notice a big difference. I looked at it last night and didn't think twice about it.

Including taxes registration and fees the final price using Costco was a Savings of $4,400

YOWZA!! I was wondering how much negotiating room Costco was going to get from dealers. Sounds like you got a swell deal. I'm hoping my local Costco dealer follows suit :fingerscrossed:
    Thanks!

Great write up, and it gives me more confidence in my order. I also havent test driven one yet, but ordered one regardless. My only concern was if it was dirt slow or not. I didntvorder this thing to be a race car, but ive always had quick to fast vehicles and it would suck if the truck was a dog.

Just an FYI, the 4x4 sport I test drove this past weekend was built in Mexico and also had Firestones.

Somewhat off topic but reminds me of the Firestone Tire issues back in Y2K. I think they caused a bunch of problems on the old Ford Exploders...6.5M tires had to be recalled
