That's crazy man. You need a buddy in the US. Go vacation down here. Have your parts shipped to their place. Have them installed local in the US. Then drive home. Who's to know when you cross the border that those parts weren't already installed when you left? o_O

Oh okay. So the dollar conversion is the primary issue. Not the actual cost.

I already have bilstein 5100s in the rear with a custom .5" AAL. 885 and billies on the front.

Yeah our dollar sucks right now. I have a buddy in Seattle and a mother in law in Scotsdale who we will be visiting in the summer.

I didn't read any further than the OP's first post but I'll address it anyway .. Anytime you lift with a suspension upgrade theres going to be a trade off & it's usually a "firmer" ride not to be confused with a "harsh" ride, a harsh ride would be over sprung & under dampened, also it seems that some want the end result to be a cadillac ride on road, and an off road beast capable of delivering that same cadillac ride, in a perfect world maybe. You CAN put together decent/good on road ride quality with a capable off road ride as well, just don't have unrealistic expectations is all...

The issue with a full leaf pack is most lift too high for a small lift. Dakars are supposedly great if you want 2.75" lift. If you want a more mild lift like the OP that is too high.

I lifted my truck 2" up front and 1.5" out back with a 3 leaf progressive AAL. The rear rides much better than stock with additional carrying capacity and has zero vibe issues. However if you have a 2 leaf pack, get that replaced, I have a 3 leaf and added 3 more with the progressive AAL. Point being there is a place for different options depending on your build goals. With my entire build, moderation is the key.

I agree with you in the moderation. I am planning on doing the progressive 1.5" wheelers AAL.

The AAL depends on the stock leaf pack, which sucks. So you're spending money on a part that will have to be replaced in a few years. If you tow or carry weight the stock leafs last shorter.

    For 265s you shouldn't need a spacer. 275s you might, 285s you will need a 1.25" spacer.

That reply got delayed, stupid phone.

You can get any amount of lift, lower, increased or decreased weight capacity you want with a leaf pack. Deaver or one of their competitors will work with you to build it.

Dakars seem to run 25" Hub to Fender, that's probably more than the OP wants. Allpro makes a stander duty leaf pack, that is less lift, there are a couple others out there too that make a full pack with less lift than the Dakars.

Bottom line, IMO, is that you can do a "good enough" lift with an AAL and/or blocks. There is a reason so many trucks have that lift, and they are so cheap. The better answer is an off the shelf pack that's generally in line with what you want for ride height and weight. The best answer is a custom pack designed to your exact spec.

Did a side by side last night. My front is impressive(to me). But the back is a little baffling to me. The older Tacoma is pretty close to mine? Unless it's the angle or something. He does have a tonneau cover but I still can't make my eyes see mine being higher than his. Not complaining or anything. Just a little surprised. Maybe because I have a Sport? Are the OR higher to begin with? I don't think this guy had any lift in the back or anything. I didn't look but could kind of tell he didn't do a thing to it.

The bed cover I think is giving the illusion the bed is higher.

Look at the top of your cab vs the top of the other trucks cab, yours is clearly noticeably higher. The angle isn't great but on the rear, look at the driver side upper bumper corner below the taillight, and compare that with the passenger side upper bumper on the other truck. Yours is clearly higher. Also depending on your gas tank level you could have a slight lean which makes the driver side of the truck slightly lower than the passenger side.

With a 1.5" rear lift, plus the 265/70R17s you should be 2" higher in the rear than the other truck.

Good man. You make me feel better. Next time I won't pull in like a donkey!!!!! I was in a rush and didn't want the guy to come out and see me taking pic's of his truck. I think it's the angle also

In an attempt to *NOT* hijack the thread, I have a Q for those of you with the 885/Bilstein 5100 combo setup:

How do you like that combo of springs and shock? Hows the ride quality etc? As some of you may know, (and as indicated in my sig.) I installed the OME 3"setup with the 885 coils/LCR UCAs etc. back in 2013 (September). Here it is just about 2 years later, and I believe my OME shocks are already shot (which is a shame because these shocks (when new) are an awesome riding shock).

Now, I notice a lot of clunking and banging on droop going over the manhole covers and cracks in the road, and this summer on a road trip to SD, I wore the CRAP out of my Passenger front tire.. It wasn't the typical, outside or inside corner wear due to an alignment issue, it was a cross tread scalloping type wear that created a wicked oscillation going down the road. When I returned from my trip, I immediately (that day) I took it to have the tires rotated and balanced thinking the tire threw a weight and the tire was just about trashed, and the tire place indicated the wear is not due to alignment it was more likely due to trashed shocks. (I just moved the tires to the back.)

Anyway, I have been driving the truck as it is right now, but before I purchase more tires I need to do another shock replacement, and instead of throwing down another grand + for coil overs, I was just thinking of swapping the shocks for the 5100s, and using my 885 coils.

Please advise as soon as possible - as I need to get this taken care of before the snow begins to fly!

    Thanks in advance!

Have you looked into OME warranty on the shocks?

BTW, and in reference to your lift comments/concerns; the stock Tacoma has a pretty serious rake in the front (back being higher than the front..) and when you lift our trucks you see the largest change in the front vs the rear (as is shown from the front end pics in your post.) The rear of our trucks is barely noticeable when lifted. Remember they only get a 1-1.5" block or AAL. So this is a common observation most have on our trucks after lifting. Unless you get a really tall (4-6 inch lift, with relocation brackets etc) the trucks don't look all that much different.

Interesting,... when I spoke to Toytec this week, they told me the warranty was only good for 2 yrs, vs. the indicated 3 on the link you provided.. Hmm I need to look into this, and see where my mileage was when I installed them!

    thanks for the catch there..!

Dunno, but I just sent a message through both ARB and OME's web pages on the warranty process.. In any case, I am still interested in the Bilstien/OME spring combo, because my gut feeling on this will be to send the suspected bad shocks in for inspection, and then (maybe) weeks later Ill find some resolution through the warr. process. (typical in these situations) so I likely cant wait that long, and will probably still end up purchasing new Bilstien 5100s. or other shock setup.

    Thanks for the info!

I was wondering that myself. I thought the back didn't get as much of a lift only being 1.5. I think it still looks good this way. meaning this is how the rake should be from factory. Thanks for confirming.
