They ALL have problems. Maybe you should read the other forums and catch up on rusted out frames and bodies, and of course the
    drive train vibrations ...

Yeah I am tempted to hold on to my 2Gen just to see Toyota swap rear axle with discs due to recall. That would be funny as hell. Also it would make my Truck cost Toyota as much as I payed them for.:D
I got 3rd leaf pack set and its still not a correct one. So after all is said and done Toyota will replace 4 leaf packs, and full frame with half of the hardware, just because they can't paint correctly That is
I dont want to wait too long because if Toyota does not recall frames on 2009 trucks, that KBB algorithm will push Tacoma into Jeep resale territory and since algorithm does not know my frame was replaced I am gonna get screwed just as much as the rest of people..
I was thinking about getting a Ford but I wanted to test XD before buying new truck. I just did not want to buy something than trade in right after.
However, if you are not interested in Diesel that F150 is definitely a great buy and better than 2016 Tacoma.

This is a big reason why i didnt go for the ford f150 with 3.5 ecoboost (size was a second consideration). I commute anywhere from 30-50k miles annually, so longevity/reliability are my most critical concerns.

Supposedly they made changes in 2009 to fix the rust issue. I guess only time will tell since I thought they'd fixed it with the first year of the 2nd gen. And yeah, I don't understand them putting a $12,000 frame under a truck 2 out of 3 dealers would only offer me $3,000 for. Maybe they just don't want the negative publicity of another buy back?

The fact that Nissan *really* wanted to steal market share aware from the big 3 made me think maybe they would hit it out of the park with the XD. I really liked the idea of a diesel too, however I started questioning that with maintenance costs. More oil, urea, increasing emissions requirements coming down the road in a couple of years.... It would probably be grandfathered in at that point, but just made me think maybe there would be more BS to deal with than I wanted. I got the F150 nearly fully loaded (for an XLT) because I didn't want to screw around with it. Just get in and drive it. Getting a diesel made me think I might have to work on it more, or pay someone else for the extra maintenance.

So are most of us... I dont consider great quality if you need two frames in 9 years or 4 leaf springs in 9 years.
Definitely I dont consider a great quality if total value of repairs in 9 years is more than 50% of the original price. At that point that is Holy F..k territory.
To give you idea, I purchased my truck for $29 000 in 2006
Toyota spend probably near $20 000 already on repairs of it...
I am goign to ask anybody to show me a domestic vehicle that ever needed that much in repairs to stay on the road?
    Ever..

I once heard that BlueT had rusted frame on a Tacoma.

Edit: maybe he'll tell the story again someday.

    Do you have the Ecoboost?
If so, how do you like it?

I'm making an effort to avoid the Ecoboost. I think I'll end up with the V8 since the Super Crew with a 6.5ft bed doesn't come with the non-boost V6. If I get the Access Cab (which I doubt I can convince my husband to let me do) I'll get the V6.

Yeah that frame issue is mind boggling, I remember you complaining about $3000 trade in value, yeah that's ridiculous and a reason why I dont want another Toyota Made in US. Dont want to end up with highly overpriced salvage.
Looking at 2016 Trucks Toyota had not learned their lesson so time to cut losses. I am goign to test XD but if I dont like it I will probably go with Ford like you. My Fords always lasted as long as I did not let Ford service to touch them. So I have no complains about Ford.

I know you didn't ask me but I'll give you my $.02.

I have the Ecoboost. If you do any real towing, go with the Ecoboost. Can the V8 do the same job? Sure can. Will the Ecoboost do it better? You betcha.

Especially when I'm towing up the continental divide...love passing and hearing those V8's scream up the mountain while towing.

I use my truck for mostly hauling. I'll easily get a couple thousand pounds in my bed several times a year. Not so much towing. Most of what I tow is under 5,000lbs. Once a year I'll maybe help get some animals down to the slaughterhouse but the past two years all the family has raised are pigs. Which don't amount to much weight.

My largest concerns with the Ecoboosts are #1 more maintenance and upkeep and #2 you get worse mileage with them if running the boost all the time. From what I have been told, it can be very hard to keep your foot out of the boost. I've never personally really tried it though.

I couldn't own a full size w/o that V8 sound. And the Ford 5.0 has one of the best exhaust notes in the biz.

I've had my EB since May, and I can see both. Boost is *very* tempting! :D But it's also easy to leave it out of sport mode, and drive around between ~1200 and 2000 RPM. You make 90% torque at 1500 RPM, idle is somewhere around 1200-1300 RPM probably. So I can accelerate with almost all torque available just over idle speed.

I can hammer on it, and get it down to mid 16's MPG wise, or I can drive conservatively and get 18+ MPG. I keep the dash on the eco gauge display showing instantaneous and average MPG so I use the green bar to keep my right foot in check.

I can break the tires loose at 20mph if I want, but again, it's also easy enough to go easy. Seems like I alternate every other tank between stretching gas, and FUCK IT LET'S GOOOOOOOOO! Probably something to do with when payroll comes through. haha

Towing would probably be more boost intensive though, and I really want to load up my trailer just to see, but I haven't needed it for anything yet.

If you're not towing a lot, then the EB isn't necessary. That being said, I'm not sure what you mean about more maintenence and upkeep. That lil' 6 only takes 6 quarts of oil. Mileage, as with anything, varies by user. My worst tank is probably 16.x. If I keep it under 65mph on the highway I can get 19-22mpg depending on conditions.

The difference is that Toyota spent that money, not you. Ford would tell you it is your fault or that you didn't wash it enough, and GM would just put you on hold and laugh when you asked them to replace the frame. Most other manufacturers would consider the frame rusting to be a good time to talk to you about buying a new one, not a time to recall and put an entirely new frame on the vehicle.

Toyota spent that money only after they got slammed by Class Action just like GM got slammed by class action for ignition switch. Praising Toyota for doing what they were getting dragged to courts is like praising serial rapist for finishing his 30 year sentence in state prison.
BTW 2009 trucks are next in frame rot and they are not covered by last recall.
I see you have 99 truck, do you know where my 99 truck is ?
