So there's no standard for emissions on new vehicles sold within the US ?

new, all vehicles are exempt from emissions. yes they have federal standards from the plant and after that only vehicles in certain counties of those 9 states require diesels to get tested yearly.

So vehicles that don't meet the national emissions standards for new vehicles sold in the US , don't meet the national emissions standards

I'm not saying they are innocent. i'm saying this isn't such a big deal there are far dirtier cars on the road. vw isn't the only company doing this they are just the only ones dealing with this publicly.

what I was mentioning on this page, there are only 9 states that do standard emissions testing on diesel cars in the US and everyone is sue happy. there's other stuff going on that would irritate people a lot more this but this is just the drama of the month, its a good distraction...

I would suggest the percentage of vehicles on the road today that exceed the emmisions standards for new cars by 40 times is pretty minimal

just off the top of my head, the bmw x3 is in the spot light in Europe, and Suzuki wont even sell cars in the usa anymore because they don't want to deal with the federal reg

So in wiki'd the diesel regulations b/c 9 states sounded a bit too odd.

States can either follow he federal/national diesel regulations or they can follow California's.

And the only reason California is special is b/c of LA.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_emission_standards

Every state regulates diesel emmissions 1 way or the other b/c of the epa and clean air act.

If they would buy mine back above market value and make me a deal on a 16 golf estate wagon I'd do it.

I wish they would by my truck at above market value. The gen3 Tacoma is out and my lowley gen2 doesn't have some of the features the new one has. And it's just not fair. I want justice. I'm entitled. :D

That was the fault of the airbag manufacturer, not Honda. It affected FCA, GM, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi too.

There's a difference between entitlement, and expecting to get what you paid for. I understand your agenda here, but not everyone agrees that meeting emissions standards is frivalous. There are a million for-instance examples (like OZ's insulation example that you didnt respond to), but the bottom line is that people paid for something they didnt get due to very bad business practices. They have every right to feel jaded, and if there's an opportunity to actually get what they paid for, why shouldnt they take advantage of it?

I still don't understand what the buyers of these VW cars don't have today that they had when they purchased their cars a few months or years ago?

They now know that they are contributing up to 40 times more smog that they were led to believe ( this actually matters to some people , maybe not you Larry )

If , in order to keep there cars on the road , in the most likely scenario , VW will need to remove the emissions system defeat software , the cars will get less MPG and performance

    Is that still unclear ?

Is there a link to document the 40% claim?

The 40% is the allegation that is being pursued. It's going to take a long time before you have a document that tells you the actual. But when VW cooperate admit their criminal actions then you know it's at least the alleged 40% or possibly even higher.
