Tired of waiting for my build to progress, time to grab the bull by the balls. Just worked out a savings plan to get my hc rear bumper around nov/dec. Gears by late spring. Suspension upgrades a year out. No more weekday beers for me (I'm getting fat anyways!). The truck is my health plan lol

That's a really good idea. I eat out way too much too. The problem is the whole cooking for a living thing makes me not want to cook at home. Maybe I'll go on a Trader Joe's frozen burrito diet.

so is anyone here running bypasses in the rear? I'm trying to figure out my next suspension upgrade and am currently debating clicker vs bypasses. both have their pro's and cons and just when I think I have figured out which way to go I hear about some or other reason not to go that way...!

latest is that bypasses are really noisy - ie the "clicking" of the washers/valves? how bad or noticeable is this? this is my daily driver and I am the kind of person that hates random noises/clunks/knocks/squeaks/clicks coming from my vehicle. I've seen some videos online where it is REALLY obnoxious, but those are mostly on race trucks with cages which can apparently amplify the noise.

does anyone here have any experience with this, is it that loud or is it only noticeable offroad at speed? I've heard the whole "race truck parts make race truck noises" spiel, I'm just trying to figure out if its something I can live with or not

If you have the money for bypasses, i would say go for bypasses, hands down. Clickers are great for the truck that goes offroad every few months and wants to be able to stiffen up the shock a little bit, but bypasses you can tune perfectly to what your terrain is and you are tuning the compression and rebound.

    Yes. I run bypasses.
Clickers suck donkey balls. Not even close to a substitute for a bypass
Bypasses are loud. There's a ball bearing that slams shut when the oil changes direction. As the ball bearing hits the end of the valve, it makes a click sound. The sound is amplified tremendously with hollow tube cages. I have bypasses on all four corners (but no cab cage) and I only notice the bypass clicking when my windows are open.
Offroad at speed (say pismo for example with lots of wash, whoops, un-even sand and razorbacks) you'll have the most noise. It's the nature of the beast. That sound is the bypasses doing their job.

    Other things to consider:
With a bypass shock, you can build in a compression bump zone the last "x" inches of shock travel. You have your comp tube(s) end before the shock travel bottoms out. This forces all the oil to pass through the valving (rather than being bypassed) and creating a bump zone. This basically will increase dampening for that last bit of travel which is especially beneficial with leaf spring trucks. Resi compression clickers...don't have anything like that.
Bypasses allow you to bypass both on compression and rebound. Clickers are for compression only. In my experience, leaf springs don't drop out fast enough even with the lightest rebound valving you can get. Bushings in the leaf springs have natural dampening built into them just by torquing the spring bolt.
Lastly, most clicker style shocks have the resi hose coming off the top of the shock body. This means the IFP inside the resi plunges as the shock compresses (read this as wasting shock efficiency). When the resi hose comes off the bottom (as it does with a bypass shock), all the oil gets pushed through the valving all the way through the compression stroke. Mucho better design.

My icon doubles don't make any noises on road. Then again my coil overs rattling around in the buckets up front could be drowning them out...

But yea listen to Mr. @jberry813 up there. He knows what he's talking about.

    Shhhhhhhhhhhhh! Keep that a secret.
I'm at the point with the MT and LT threads where I'm just going to point and laugh and be an asshole (bigger asshole) from now on.

Andy bypasses shouldn't make noise on-road...except with mall speed bumps, driveway dips, and if you're quick, kittens and goldfish.

EDIT: Forgot about California roads. Asphalt FUBAR'd pot-holes will also cause bypass clicky clicky

What's important is that you keep growing and increasing your intimate knowledge of Donkey Ball Suckage.

BTW, I am ready to sell my 01 if you know anyone in the market. I'll be posting an FS thread here soon.

    My bad :anonymous:

Hell I bet I could get some bypass noises going on rolling through the streets of SF. Maybe I'll try it one day.

I should have a pilot's license at this point for the amount of time I've spent airborn in the city.

Well yeah. Some of SF's best vertical is right by Union Square and Cathedral Hill. It would be completely white trash of me to not catch a show while I'm out.
