Yep, you have intellectual property rights over this thread. Guess I can't post in it either.

Compared to 2nd gen, 3rd gen is:
    7% shorter in 1st
    7% shorter in 2nd
    11% shorter in 3rd
    5% shorter in 4th
    1% shorter in 5th
    (6th is 18% taller)

Since the 3rd gen has 12.5% shorter stroke than 2nd gen, the pistons will actually be moving slower in every gear. That's better, right?

In fact I do. If the OP wasn't supposed to have input in their thread, there wouldn't be a "new post" button. There would be a set number of topics created by TW admin that we could post in.

I'll just wait until mine gets here and put the rated 6800 on the back. If it breaks, thats why it has a warranty

Bet it tows just like a 2nd Gen... Little slower off the line, looks better going down the road, more stuff in cab to mess with while on the road.
    There, I'm good.

So dumb question -- I probably missed it somewhere -- but is the Spec sheet out showing gear ratios between the different models? I know the tire size is different from the SR5 to the TRD Sport and then OR, right? So is there a different gear ratio in each to maintain ideal performance and fuel economy marks?

All I can tell you is the 4.0 never dropped below 50mph on 7% Interstate grades. The 3.5 can't do any worse since it has about the same power numbers. Offroad in 4hi/4lo hauling a trailer and loaded bed, easy, plenty of power with the 4.0, should be the same with the 3.5.

On those two-lane roads the speed limit is maybe 45-60mph, that's easy for a 4.0, so easy with a 3.5.

Following this thread. Interested in the DC V6 4x4 Off Road w/ tow package. Realizing I'd need stabilizers, maybe extra leaf, etc, I'd like to tow a 16' Airstream Bambi with GVWR of 4,300 lb, 3,100 dry weight, and a 390 lb tongue/hitch weight. No kids, just wife and I going camping. Don't have any need for a full size truck. If this won't cut it, I may resort to a used (2009 +) Land Cruiser.

I have a 3,000 lb Casita. I too am eager to hear towing reviews. So far I have mostly gotten "Don't buy a Tacoma for towing." responses on this thread.

^^ this is what I am worried about. However, on the Airstream forums, I see plenty of people towing 19' and a few 22' Airstreams with the Gen 2 DC V6 without much issue other than MPGs being around 10-12, which I can deal with.

Well contrary to some of the folks on this forum, the Tacoma is meant to tow. Hence the hitch, tow package, trailer lights etc. Just not meant to tow a lot regularly. I am coming from an '02 so the improvement should be substantial but not so sure how much better the gen 3 pulls compared to the gen 2. May even be worse.
