The 2nd generation Tacoma's bed rail system included the back of the cab. This is not the case on the 2016's. Does anyone know if the additional rail can be added? I'm looking to haul a mountain bike (29in wheels) with the short bed. The only option so far, outside of driving with the tailgate down, is the removal of the front wheel. The fork would then mount to the rail on the back of the cab.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't see why you couldn't bolt that rail right where the old one was.

You would want to bolt through the bed, and use a good size washer on the backside.

It appears a 2nd gen rail could be mounted on a 2016, with the existing torx bolts.

    That looks entirely possible.

It does look that way. I've searched all over the internet and can't locate the rail itself for sale. Do you know where I can find it? I may be calling it the wrong thing. :frusty:

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Speculation is that it was removed in order to accommodate the new bed cover.

Well, if the tonneau can be removed in 60 seconds as someone in another thread suggested, then the design is poor. I would not mind having the cover but not at the expense of the front track. MANY bikers use that rail for bike mounts. This issue really needs resolution pretty soon. Hopefully it isn't an either or proposition. That would suck. I would certainly pick the rail over the cover for my needs.

I have the front rail on order, and I don't even have the truck yet.

I have one on order from Amazon. There is currently no ETA on delivery. I will post how it all works out.

If all else fails it's very easy to return items to Amazon.

I'm wondering why it was omitted in the first place as well....
