Do you have to replace the whole bushing or just the alignment cam?

If its seized expect a good battle. Last time my bushing were changed an acetylene torch had to be used to burn them out.

Mine seized up too. Ended up cutting them off and replacing the bolts and cams when I replaced the LCAs.

Check your alignment cam tabs while you're poking around. There's a good chance they're flattened.

That's the cam bolt sticking out. Mine was seized in the LCA bushing and had to be cut to remove the LCA.

I replaced the front and rear suspension on my truck for performance reasons. I wanted more wheel travel.

When you remove that threaded bolt you'll see what's in the above picture.

As for tips to replace them, you could get away with not removing the entire front suspension. It'll go something like this:
    - truck goes up on jack stands
    - pull the front wheels
    - remove the lower shock mount bolt
    - unbolt the bottom of the spindle from the LCA
    - remove the bolts and alignment cams from the front and rear LCA mounts

You'll now have a lower control arm sitting on the floor. Remove the bushings, install new bushings, and reinstall the LCA. You'll need to get a wheel alignment when you're all done.

seems at lot easier than i was told.when you said "unbolt the bottom of the spindle from the LCA" you mean the lower ball joint right?

It IS easy. Shops make a ton of money off this stuff because people are afraid to turn wrenches themselves.

No need to remove the ball joint. There are 2 bolts that attach the spindle to the piece that pivots below the ball joint. Just undo that 2 bolts and the bottom of the spindle will swing free.

Shot of my truck, sans spindle, in the middle of some work I was doing so you can see where the bolts are and how it comes apart:

maybe i am missing something here or i am misinterpreting the situation.

is there a way to avoid the problem

is this a result of a mod done to the front suspension -- does not look like it since there is corrosion on the area in question.

The alignment cam bolts are not lubricated at the factory and seize inside the LCA. The result is that the cams move when the LCAs move, so your alignment changes as the suspension cycles.

i would say it has a lot to do with where you live.i'm from ny so we have alot of salt on the roads for 3-4 months.but with out factory lube can happen anywhere.you could do some pm and make a weekend project out of it and take the four bolts out and put anti seize on them just for good measure thats what i plan on doing this weekend after i install the new bushing.

mjp2 can you give me an Idea of how you cut your pins out without screwing up the bushings??? mine are seized in there tight, been beating on them for quite a while now with no movement.

I have 4 new cam assemblies to put in afterwards I just need to get these old ones out...

    Thanks
