Have you done a reset on it? Should be a SMALL hole somewhere usually in the face that you can stick a toothpick sized object in to reset the unit.

It may be behind the face plate if it flips down

I'm stuck then, it's hard to trouble shoot a unit without having hands on. As long as the main three wires are hooked up then that should eliminate the harness. From what you're describing it sounds like the ribbon that connects the digitizer to the processor is malfunctioning.

Is that internal or on the harness? Sorry, I know nothing about radios.

It would most likely be on the bottom of the screen, it's a thin flexible ribbon that has multiple wires running through it, being so thin and flexible it's a weak point. Having a screen flip up and down wears it down and can fracture it.

If that's the case i'm just going to have to ask for a refund for the guy I bought it from. Going to give pioneer a call tomorrow and see if they can find out what it is, if not I guess it's back to the old radio. Thanks for the help guys

You could also take it to a local audio shop, ask to have it bench tested, most (good) shops will do that for free. If you go that route be ready to have them try to sell you something else though.

Another option is pawn shops, they have to test them before they can buy/sell them

ya there should be a reset button or if not try calibrating your screen, none of the wires should affect the use of the screen

Reset it multiple times, the screen will not allow me to press anything to even get to calibrating.

Called pioneer yesterday, I explained to the tech what was wrong and as soon as I mentioned that I used my old harness from my avh-x2700bs he told me that I could not do that because the 2700bs series and the NEX series harnesses are not compatible.

He told me that I needed to buy the harness that came in the box with the 4000NEX for it to function properly. My guess is that they upgraded something in the harness to support the added features such as Apple CarPlay, etc.

So I ordered a new harness (specifically for the 4000NEX) and it should be here in the next few days.

Hopefully this will fix the problem.

I hope it works for you, I haven't used pioneer so I'm not familiar with their products. The only thing I knew the harness would effect was video use while not in park. But all other screen functions should work. Once again I'm not sure so I hope that fixes it but in my mind that doesn't sound like it will.

I have a set with 1.5" AAL's but you can remove those if needed. They have about 45k miles but were paired with airbags for a while.
