But I will admit, It does look odd with the back of the tailgate sticking out past the cover. I guess that they all would be that way now unless someone designed it to cover that also.

yeah going to the dealer this afternoon to finalize my access roll up cover for my 2016 that should be here 1st week of October.

didn't want them to pick the wrong one over the phone, so I will personally stop in to verify the correct one.

Do you know if you can open up just the front section? (how the video of the Tundra cover does) Thanks for answering the questions BTW

I don't think so. Once you open up the tailgate, there is a latch underneath on the left that will unlatch the back section to roll onto the middle. Then the middle section unlatches and rolls onto the front section.

Get some pics of how it latches in the back to see if it's adjustable. Maybe the factory didn't set it low enough?

How difficult is it to remove the factory tonneau cover from the truck? I have never had a tonneau cover but am thinking it might be a nice option. There would be times I would want the tonneau cover removed from the truck to be able to haul tall items.

That's good to know. Nearly all the Taco's arriving in my region have them packaged. There are many times when I would not want it on. Mostly hauling mountain bikes and such around.

Sure would be cool if someone took some removal pics or shot a video for the thread.

Thanks. I was hoping that was the case. I saw some vids on aftermarket tri folds.

May have to add that option to my vehicle request.

I don't think you can take the tonneau off a factory shipped Taco and easily put it on another. Look carefully at the cutouts and other work that is necessary. Looks like a pain in the ass to me with Toyota's implementation. This is based on the pics a dealer sent me today.

I was looking at those mounting points too. Kinda looks like a factory installed job. I wonder if the dealer is able to install one or if you have to get a aftermarket one.

image.jpg I would not remove the cover and hardware to sell it. You are gonna be left with holes and cutouts in the bed. Removing just the cover to haul something is one thing. Permanent removal after factory install doesn't appear to be a good long term strategy.

If you really don't want the cover, don't buy the truck.

That doesn't look like a factory install. Looks like someone did that in their backyard.

It will be interesting to see other (better) owner photos. The one i posted came from a salesman.

There is now way that photo above is a factory job. I would bet anything that the factory cover would not require any cutting like that. They would just use a cover that can simply go over with minimal install labor.
