ive lately been having issues with my auto taco and i first noticed this about a month ago. i had an early warning sign that something wasnt right when at a stop sign i was trying to accelerate as you do and all that happened was that my rpms spiked as if the truck was in neutral. it then worked fine after that minor blip. then the more significant issue occurred when coming to another stop and then the truck vibrated suddenly right before i came to a dead stop and then completely shut off. i put the truck into park and then switched off the ignition. i then tried to turn it on again and continued to run. i need help from you guys to possibly identify what the issue may be before i even consider taking it to a dealership or mechanic. if you can help, it would be much appreciated and thanks in advance! :wave:IMG_6865.jpg

Time to change out the spark plugs. Whenever these things die like that, that's usually where to start.
Did you try reading the codes?

I have had a similar issue with my truck for a couple years now and have yet to find a fix for it. Mine will occasionally stall while sitting in stop/go traffic when I let off the brake and hit the gas. Sounds like yours though is dying as you come to a stop? If so I would think it has to do with the torque converter lockup clutch. How many miles on your truck? So far on mine I've done timing belt and water pump, plugs and wires, fuel filter, trans flush, throttle body and MAF cleaning, new air filter, and some other various maintenance items. None have really changed or fixed the problem. It's such an intermittent issue tho (normally once every few weeks) I don't really sweat it. Tho I would like to get it fixed lol

mine will have that same issue when i begin accelerating itll almost stall (this has only happened twice in the past month). truck has just about 170K miles on it. But im gonna take it to my mechanic this week before anything else begins to give me issues. other than this minor issue my truck has been running impeccably!

This honestly sounds like an issue with the auto tranny. Check and see if your coolant in your radiator is a frothy strawberry color. If it is then you have a failed tranny cooler and the transmission is likely gone. If you don't have frothy strawberry milkshake coolant, then check your ATF level. If it is low you may start to slip and loose gears at low pressure. Just some tips on simple places to start, good luck. Also consider naming your thread a bit more specifically, helps the guys that know about certain issues find the thread and chime in.

Update: well i have now changed the spark plugs and already ive felt major improvements. Still not quite there for all the shaking ive been feeling but maybe thats just because im paying a lot more attention to it than i probably should. truck hasnt turned off or felt like it is gonna stall at a stop since ive had them changed on Friday. Next thing to do is now have the trans fluid changed, oh happy days.

I did a search for a similar issue with my 99 that I think is tranny related and when I read your first line in the post I thought it was the same thing but mine doesn't die on me. It just skips when I get on the gas even remotely heavy. Hope your plugs solved your problem.

So I forgot about this thread, but I finally fixed my problem about a month ago. It was the throttle position sensor... It threw a TPS code so I went down the dealer, picked up a new one for $70 and now the truck is good to go! You guys with intermittent stalling issues should consider doing this.

Thanx for posting the solution. Many don't do that.

BTW, was the CEL on all the time, or did it pop up later?

It wasn't on the whole time, it came on once, I pulled the code, replaced the sensor, then deleted the code... problem solved.

so after all the searching for the problem, finally was able to discover that the fuel injector for my 5th cylinder had completely failed and wont function. I checked the compression and it was normal but I will be going to the dealer and will be picking up a few new fuel injectors and hopefully have my truck up and running again...
