I'm sure this questions been asked a few times on here. But what does everyone's dogs eat? Bravo is going on 10 months and I just can't seem to fill him out. Currently he's on Kirkland Puppy food (higher calorie content) before that I had him on Nature's domain (He didn't seem to like it much)

My dog has a few food intolerances. He gets Zignature Kangaroo. It's grain free and the only meat source is kangaroo. He doesn't do too good with lamb or chicken which it seems like mostly everything has. I remember reading the feeding charts on the bag and for puppies it always said to double the amount.

He weighs in right around 45lb and only gets 1.5c a day with moderate activity for a pet (~1hr brisk walk a day.) You can feel his ribs but cant see them which is ideal.

Riley weighed about 85# for the longest time. Not fat, not skinny. That was until he was maybe 2-1/2. He's been steady at 110 for quite a while now. He gets maybe 4-1/2C of food daily. For the longest time, Kirkland salmon and sweet potato. Now Nature's Domain duck & potato. When he was a puppy, regular dog food-Kirkland lamb & rice. I know many believe in puppy food then adult dog food. I spoke with the vet before doing that and as long as I could meet his caloric requirement, he didn't see any harm in that.

I may change his food back to lamb & rice. Or maybe venison...idk. Nothing seems to be better (or worse) at the moment (he has skin allergies).

Until this spring, I had a Labrador that could only eat Beneful. Anything else and she had a horrible case of the runs that lasted days. I always felt a little bit bad about feeding it to her because it was basically cheap dog food.

She lived to be nearly 16.

Now I've got a five month old lab puppy and the only puppy food I can give him is Beneful, or he gets the runs. I've probably tried six brands with him.

My wife's little mutt has a grain allergy and is a picky eater so we're constantly trying to experiment with the fancy dog foods with her to find something she likes and can eat. I swear some of that stuff costs as much per pound as steak.

Changing dog food is or can be a tricky thing. Usually, you start mixing the two and increasing the new food by small amounts over a week or two to avoid the squirts. Some dogs have cast iron constitutions & others, not so much. You might go from 25% new to100% over two weeks for a pup with a sensitive tummy.

Puppy food is generally higher in fat content and that could be a part of the problem too (and why mixing would be a better way to swap).

Yeah, we've tried mixing the food in. Once we get past about a 2:1 ratio he goes into full discharge mode.

Hmm. Try holding the mix at less than that for a few days.

    My 3 eat this. http://www.feedgoodness.com/recipes/dog/grain-free-recipe-pork-beef-lamb-poultry-free

From Petco. Pricey but not outrageous. 2 of the 3 mutts have skin allergies and after switching to this, we have had alot better success in keeping them happy and alot less scratching and itching. If they do get dry, well switch to the salmon bag for a few weeks.

Agreed. I had to hold mine on each mix for a week or more before her stomach wasn't all messed up by it.

We feed ours Earthborn holistic adult vantage. It is a high quality dog food. I have done some reading about raw diets but haven't made the commitment to going raw.
