    I thought about mounting them closer to center, but for avoiding dragging the far end on the ground I put them at the end. The biggest issue was the height. Chopping the mounts and bringing the axle within an inch or two of the frame should make the biggest difference.

    Nice. Looks pretty well checked.
    We burn firs in the stove at my parent's camp, but it's mostly Eastern White Pine. Pitchy stuff, but it burns great once it's dried. How's the pitch content on Ponderosa?

    Got a few loads of 50 yr old black locust fence posts. Had to watch for nails bit damn is it hard dense wood.

    The pine is ever so slightly hotter and longer burning than fir, but not by much.

    Black locust is one of the absolute best firewoods.

    Longer burning ? Interesting , my limited experience with burning pine is it is much quicker burning , I guess it depends on the actual grain count of the pieces too

    They were anywhere from 6 to 8 ft long and of varying thicknesses. But, yea you could have milled them....if you wouldn't mind fencing staples and 8 penny nails going through your shop equipment.

    That's a nice looking froe.
    Not sure how well riving an old fencepost would work, though. If Black Locust is anything like the Cedar around here the fenceposts tend to warp pretty significantly over the years from repeated soaking/drying cycles. I would think that would make it tough to rive a flat plank from it.

    The planks are never flat when you rive them , the board splits along the grain

    Right. But what I'm saying is that I would think that a plank rived from a fencepost is more likely to have a pretty significant twist or a bow from years of exposure to the elements.
