Trust me the tailgate is by no means weak...I dropped a dodge 440 and a 727 on it saturday and its still straight and holding up.

Mine I view as a commuter car with functionality.
Other than that I don't expect a bunch from it other than being reliable.

I was very disappointed in my first tacoma too. It was a 2015 with a 4cyl. I felt that it had a lot of shortcomings for the price paid. So much so that I sold it within a month and swore to never buy one again. I really felt that Toyota had dropped the ball for a ~$26k truck. That was in February 2015, now it's September 2015 and I just bought another one - this time a TRD Off Road V6 and I love it. Maybe try another trim level. A lot of people would have been perfectly happy with the first tacoma I bought, but I wasn't. I upgraded and am much happier now.

The rear defroster isn't really needed in my experience with other trucks I've owned. It would be a nice touch, but I won't complain about not having it. I'd rather have heated mirrors. Also, I timed the re-lock feature and it's 30 seconds before it locks again. I feel like this would be plenty of time for most people to get in after unlocking... unless they are unlocking the truck while in the house putting their shoes on. Even then I bet I could make it .

 

07 and 15 engines are EXACTLY the same.

This. The FJ engines switched, and the 4runner i believe, to the dual VVT-i, the Tacoma engine has not changed in 10 years...just smog shit added in 2012.

 

You expect more quality? Good luck when you switch to a domestic garage bomb. If a stereo makes a truck a truck, then you have some fucked up ideas on whats expected out of a truck. Ive loaded many things using the tailgate and never had any issues. It is thinner, but its never failed. I use the truck to haul things all the time and it does the job just fine. If you hate yours so much, theres plenty of choices to choose from. Stop bitching and do something about it.

Funny that the complaints about tacomas, and toyotas in general are rarely about the vehicle not lasting or catastrophic failures. The complaints are almost always issues like my seat hurts my back, the screen is too narrow, the hood scewp isn't large enough, the shift knob is too small for my ass. I guess theres always something to bitch about.

I have owned 4 tacomas since 1983 each one has been better than the last. My 2015 has met my expectations, of course I'm simple minded and don't expect it to drive like a porsche with a bed.

 

Tell me which vehicles come with nice radios? All it takes is a after market head unit to make the speakers come alive. Almost all auto manufacturers have dim output on there speakers that way they arent clipping and blowing your speakers. Saves them money. Otherwise the warrany would have them replacing speakers too often.

 

and thats the issue. Toyota started underbuilding alot of things like the leaf springs because so many people expected a porsche ride out of a truck, so Toyota gave the average consumer what they wanted and pulled a leaf from the rear, which made the ride a bit better, but killed the payload for those of us that actually use a truck like a truck. Im not saying Toyota is perfect, contrary to popular belief, Im just saying, alot of the bitchin is about easy fixes and first world problems. But you know what, your radio might be dead from a month after you got the truck, but the truck will last another 10+ years no matter whats up with the sound system.
