Been following the forum for years, but never posted. At any rate went to test drive some 2016 tacomas today. First impression...nice looking, solid truck. Drives very nice. I currently have a 2008 Tacoma sport. Absolutely love current truck.

One problem however...if you are over 6 ft tall you will hit your head on roof if there is moonroof. Of course you could simply recline seat back, but don't expect to sit up without hitting roof. Of course you do have to sit up a bit to see over longer front end.

At 6'1" tall, I was really disappointed. Not that I wanted a moon roof, but without moon roof you can't get JBL audio system, heated seats, BSM, RCTA, dual climate control, ect (premium and technology package stuff).

I notice the roof slopes down a bit more on newer tacomas than my 2008. I will say I can fit in the new vehicle without the moon roof, but still much less headroom than 2008. I had seen some comments on this elsewhere, but just figured someone who was 6'6'' would have issues not someone only 6'1".

I asked if could get the JBL package without the moonroof but was a no go. As others have mentioned, you can't exactly mix and match as much as we use to be able to.

I may just have to go without all the bells and whistles, and go aftermarket stereo. Afterall, I have driven fine for 20+ years without blind spot monitor, ect. Just not sure I am a fan of aftermarket place going through doors, or messing with interface of the system to put in better stereo/sound. May just wait till the car audio folks work on several 2016 tacomas before I take it in.

Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas or suggestions on workarounds?

I haven't driven a 2016 yet, but EVERY vehicle I have been in with a moon/sunroof I have felt cramped for head room (and that includes a Dodge Ram). Oh, and I am 6' 1" too.

I think you are probably right Tocorazy. I sat in the 4runner and had same issue today. Thought perhaps with the auto seat adjustment that would help. I do have to put my seat nearly all the way down in my wife's pilot but at least don't hit my head in that vehicle with moonroof. I think us "taller" people are anti-moonroof.

Just really disappointed they tied this moonroof to the best package there is. Trying to think of some workarounds. I guess I could just drive with my head out the moonroof:)

    Look and see.....
The problem I have with this topic is that I have seen similar observations posted regarding 6'+ people and about half say headroom is lacking for them and the other half say there is plenty. So I'm thinking, to take this issue one step further, a great question would be how long is your torso? The longer the torso, the less headroom you will have, and not everyone has the same dimensions when I comes to torso vs leg length.

So where would I find interior cabin measurements, specifically distance from the seat to the headliner with and without the moonroof? Local Toyota doesn't have '16s here on Oahu yet.

Odd I am 6' and my grandpa is 6'3'. I have no problem in my 2016 Tacoma with moonroof and he went to lunch with me yesterday and had plenty headroom too. I asked him how it was and mad sure to give it the one over too while driving.
i don't recline my seat i like it straight up.

I test drove an 05 tacoma before buying a 04 tundra and I was staring right into the visor at 6'1. It's safe to say that I'm worried about fitting in this new tacoma. I read a post yesterday with a guy who's 6' and had 4-5" of head room. He may have been one of thos 5'8" size guys that rounds up, but it still gave me some hope. This looks like a banana, but it's my hopes :bananadead:.

I'm 6'3" and have no issues with headroom. With the moonroof. So you can't say...
Now maybe you don't fit, but I'm quite happy with the headroom.
    Just sayin'

Is there a seat adjustment to be had or perhaps different postures? I'm 6'3" and also have no problems in my 2016 w/moonroof.

Good point...I have shorter legs. Wear 33-34 length pants if that helps. I think the point is make sure and get in the vehicle if over 6'1" and have moon roof. I think some folks over 6' are fitting and some are not. Certainly has more to do with torso length than overall height.

I should also clarify that I was contacting the left side of my head on the roof at 6'1 and 3/4 inch tall, with 33-34 inch inseam. If I leaned over to the right a bit than I could make it so I didn't hit my head right underneath moonroof. I also believe Edmonds.com lists headroom as an issue. Real reason for this post was to know if anyone had some workarounds or knew how to get JBL system without moonroof as I can't find anyone who sells it or can order it that way.

I'm jealous of you over 6 ft that fit...wish I did!

I think I'm just used to the roof being close to my head. And also lean the seat back a bit.

That is what I was hoping Natestheboss...they didn't have any tacomas with auto seat adjustment that raises seat up and down so asked to go and sit in 4runner and lowered seat all the way down and still hit left side where moonroof opening begins. Bad anatomy for me I guess. Friend has tundra and no issues noted when sitting in there.

I may go back and try that...move seat forward a bit and lie the back portion down a bit so I am leaned back.

might depend on who has longer legs/shorter legs, longer upper torso/shorter upper torso... but i do wish all tacomas had a sunroof option..first car/truck ive had without one.

I'm 6'1'. I drove around a Grey Limited 4x4 around town for 3-4 hours today that dealer loaned me. Someone in austin ordered it and changed their mind without even coming in.
with sunglasses on my head , my head would rub ceiling barely. You can tell the headliner is thicker because of MR. I think bodys are different and some people are long in torso, others in leg. It wasnt a deal breaker and i was very close to driving it home. I decided to wait on my blue ORLB and get aftermarket leather. Everything else was pretty amazing, very nice, quiet ect., plenty of power. I realy liked the select a gear mode( whatever you call it) I had it in my tundra and i thought the tacama's was smoother/better. The entry level JBL seemed fine. Nice truck if anyone in austin is looking.

It all comes down to the length of your torso. I had a buddy who was 5'10" (I'm 6'3"). When I sat next to him in a chair we were the same height! We used to call him Mr. Torso, crazy short legs. He was a strange looking dude for sure. So, moral of the story, everybody is different. Gotta go sit in one to see how it fits you.
