At the risk of beating a dead horse I am posting a photo I just took of my wires under the bumper. As you can see from the slightly out of focus image the frame rail side looks like it has a white, red, blue and black wire running into the loom fom the plug. The wires in the loom are wrapped in white plastic so they aren't visible. I just want to make damn certain I am wired before I pull the plug on the Rostra without the extra wiring.

    Seems you are,

I pulled my tailgate cover to be 100% sure myself.

I found the Rostra 250-8412 on Amazon Prime for $149.95 and ordered it. It will be here Wednesday. Since there seem to be a good 4 wires at least in the bundle running out of the frame plug, my radio tells me to watch the camera, I have the yellow sticker near the tailgate and loom running into the tailgate I bet on the truck being ready to go. I guess I will know for sure on Wednesday. Worst case I call Rostra and order the wiring to the Radio. With the SR and Convenience packages I am hopeful though.

Just got the Rostra 250-8412 and installed it. Took me a few minutes to remove the stock harness to the tailgate and then installation was a breeze.
And my guess is that any Tacoma that has the SR and convenience packages is wired to the head unit.

I just wish that Toyota would have sold the simple camera module for a reasonable price and not $600 to $700. That would have taken 5 minutes to install.

I guess I'm old school, I never use my back up camera. When I tried to use it a few times my sunglasses were a problem with the polarized lenses. Good for hooking up a trailer though. Other than that It a waisted piece of equipment to me. Carry on.

Hooking up a trailer is what made the decision for me. My eyes are not what they used to be and the mirror I used to use just wasn't cutting it. Well worth the price just for that.. Otherwise I would tend to agree with you.

FWIW, I found a listed Toyota part number on eBay a few weeks back, I watched it for a while and finally pulled the trigger.

It seems it is a genuine factory Toyota reverse camera for the 2015 6-pin and I guess 2014 if they have 6-pin cameras.

I removed my tail gate cover to be sire I was indeed pre-wired and I was. Camera just came in today. It took a while getting here from China but I'll let the pictures show you guys. Guess I took the chance because the seller had a return policy also.

This is what arrived. I was pleasantly surprised to see the box be as large as it was and plenty of bubble wrap in there!

This is the new camera next to the old filler plug for comparison.

Part number I saw on eBay as found on numerous online parts dealers for anywhere from 480 dollars up!
Lets just say I got this one for less than half that!

Easy as pie to swap. Removed the yellow protective tape also. That made me feel eve better.

There we go! I actually laid out the tail gate panel cover and used it to be sure I had the camera tightened down to give me the parallel view to the bumper. There is a tad bit of free play before you snug down the two bolts holding it in place.

    There you have it.

I just thought this was interesting. The picture of the display from the camera on Amazon is different than the back up camera display in my 2014. Mine has horizontal lines delineating the distances.

To you guys that recently did installs: when you had it all disassembled on the back end, did you see any way to adjust the camera angle while doing the install? Or is it a direct fit, fits like a puzzle piece solution?

If it is a non adjustable part, could one put a washer under any installation screws to affect camera angle? Or would the next piece fit improperly after that?

The camera fits right in. No adjustment needed. You may make adjustment by adding a washer. But these cameras have wide angle lenses. Therefore, adding a washer or so doesn't change the view too much if there is any change at all.

    Hmm, Good question,

There is a tad bit of free play left to right with the bolts loosened,
I put a yard stick down parallel to my bumper and checked the alignment to be sure it was looking square to the rear.

You could probably put some this nylon washers under one side to fine tune it if you wanted to.

    Mine works perfectly,

I just asked because a lot of these cameras show nothing but tailgate on the bottom third of the screen. It'd be nice to lower the camera a hair so the tailgate lined up with the bottom center of the display screen.

Due to it being a fisheye lens, I do realize there is inherent "wasted" space, but alignment could be just a little better than it is. No biggie. We can see what we need to. Anything more would simply be a bonus.

I don't have a pic on my hand. My wife drove it to Louisiana. I grabbed one from the seller's ebay link. He put it up upon my request. It is for night vision but you get the idea. I will do a write-up since I promised him to do one this weekend.

Agreed. Showing tailgate doesn't make any sense to me. I guess the problem is the design of tailgate handle which sits way deep into the tailgate. The seller on ebay told me they tried to solve the problem by adding more space to the connector side of camera but doing so would expose the whole camera under direct sun light which potential reduce the lifespan of the lens.
