Has anyone seen that ARCO commercial that just came out? I'm watching the Dodger/giants game right now on Time warner, and it's been shown every commercial. It features a 97-00 gold taco. There was a guy with a production company in the socal forum asking for a volunteer with this same truck. I wonder if this was the commercial he was scouting for?

A member did respond to his request. We may have a nationally recognized Tacoma as a member here people. (after TCbob and his Dos Equis commercials)

When my slip yoke gets dry, I get a very slight 'clink' noise. One clink only for each change of direction. Put it in drive, one clink. Put it in reverse, one clink. I forget how you described the noise you were hearing, but it sounded to me like it was the sound a dry u-joint makes. Quite different from the slip yoke noise.

    So what actually happened bruv?

Last you told me you found oil in your exhaust, was it just a symptom of your engine giving out?

It was just a low toned squeak when I first started forward or reverse. My rear joint was pretty dry might have missed it when I greased both shafts a couple thousand Mile's ago!

Yes I had oil in the exhaust and in the intake. A shit load of coolant in the oil. I didn't bother tearing into the engine to see what really happen. I know it would be helpful to others to share so it doesn't happen to them but right now I have so much on my plate. It's not on list to tear it down and see. Sorry. I was assuming that I lost rings and oil got into the my exhaust clogging the cat and caused to much blow back causing it to crack the head. But then again I'm no mechanic.

It was after a 16 hr day of hard running at work and I just wanted to get home. I heard a large pop in my exhasut and it starting idling ruff. So when I was at stops I had my foot on the brake and gas at the same time to keep the RPM up. To keep her running. When I got home I let it sit and idle for a bit then it cut out and didn't want to start. I can still turn the crank with a breaker bar and socket. So it's not locked up.

I'm pretty sure someone here might know more.

I just want to move forward and just throw in a 3.4l. Having the 2.7l here in Co is a pain with the elevation and mountains. On flat ground I do fine. Plus being a DC.

Anyways I'm looking forward to the change. :D

Is there anyway to check for play in the rear diff? I think that maybe where I'm getting the harsh engagement from. Sometime you can hear a ping, like gears are slaming against each other. And thats maybe why you can rock the truck and it move a significant amount when in park.

You can separate the rear of the drive-shaft from the differential yoke. Then try to rotate the yoke. There should not be any play in a stock diff.

Having driven through CO a couple of times with my 4banger I can attest to this. Those mountains will have you at 45mph in 3rd gear in some places:censored:

Ahh well, keep us posted on the engine swap when you get around to it, best of luck with it.

My current exhaust situation is having my rear O2 sensor ziptied to the frame:anonymous: I'm afraid to put the cheap "universal" one in from NAPA but I can't find the mount for the stock one to have my exhaust guy weld it on:frusty:

If anyone knows what it's called or where to find it I'd appreciate it.. It's literally the metal oval that is welded to the exhaust pipe and has 2 studs coming out of it. I'd hit up a junkyard but I highly doubt I'd find one around here that wasn't rusted to high hell.

I was about to ask if he had thought about Axle Wrap. I get bad axle wrap at times. I think my leafs are due for replacement.

I have a 96 with the 3rz and automatic and it does not rock back as much in park, there is a significant difference.
