Fords new hydrogen bomb do out in 2012.......just added front view photo.

 

is there some rule that says "if its a hydrogen vehicle it has to be ugly as fuck?"

 

I think it looks neat. I would like to see the front though.

 

i bet they get paid alot of money to do all that too. where do i sign up?

I should applaud the efforts, but once again America produces a big ol "Bling bling cha-ching thing" . Does it emit a mushroom cloud out its Anus ...errr exhaust pipe? Why does it look so stupid and shallow, can't it just look good?

thats actually not the hydrogen design, thats the "chief" design. the hydrogen design is actually like the 2011 super duty body but the hydrogen system is designed by rousch.

 

More like the "Chihuahua self esteem/Mega compensator". Chief ... pfft. What next, the "Mega Admiral 5 Star Deluxe LTD"? Designs based on stroking the owner's ego are really getting irritating.

 

I like hydrogen, a lot, I really do - but...

It's far to costly to produce, requires more energy in then is captured by the hydrogen, and suffers from the problem that all cryogenic liquids suffer from, excessive boil off. Containment is not a problem, a double walled special purposed vacuum chamber would work (and is probably what they use). The problem here again is Hydrogen will never be more than just an energy carrier, and as much as I like it (I love hydrogen, I know from my post it sounds like I am against it) it just isn't as efficient as electricity can be. The biggest road block there is battery technology - pure and simple, as batteries continue to shed weight and gain storage capacity as well as the ability to rapidly discharge large amounts of energy repeatably wile maintaining a decent product lifespan that remains economical for the consumer is a ways off.

I however will applaud Ford for making the attempt, good on them, or at least good on their intentions - which for a brief moment I will pretend is not money from dumb "safe the planet at all costs" tree huggers.

Hydrogen has 3 times the power density as gas, so conceivably on a similarly sized tank could yield 3 times the range (ignoring boil off). If Hydrogen production prices comes down, and is made using a clean renewable energy instead of natural gas/coal power plants then I'm less concerned with the energy loss in the reaction to make hydrogen. (that is in the use of electrolysis)

There are several alternative methods to making hydrogen - all of them chemical, and most of them producing toxic gas byproducts. One I like used green algae (finally a use for that smelly green stuff). Anyway I could babble on about alternative energy, I think the future will be in Hydrogen and Electric vehicles, it would be easier from an infrastructure stand point to implement electric vehicles rather than Hydrogen vehicles (that whole which comes first, the fueling stations, or the cars with the demand thing), but one day we will probably see both.
