Same old story... My springs arnt "broken" or fractured yet but they are sagging pretty bad with only 58,000 miles on them. It hits the bump stops very easily. 500lbs of landscaping stones does it badly.

Made an appt with the dealer only to have them say they are fine and nothing can be done till they are "broken." They also stated the spring behave like this because it's a small truck. But had a payload of about 1,000lbs?

So I sent Toyota an email with the same concerns I had with the dealer. They called me the next day(today) saying that because of low inventory they are not able to put new leaf spring on a truck that doesn't come in with broken leafs. Also said should be getting a fix soon and to be patient....

Bubba, my suggestion would be to just come up with a written survey, and convince all present & former Taco owners on the web to fill one out.

Might be no more than this:

    1. is/are your spring(s) sagging?
    2. is/are your spring(s) cracked or broken?
    3. at approx what mileage did you first notice this?
    4. at what approx date?
    5. has toyota repaired you truck satisfactorily?
    6. have they compensated you elsewise?
    7. year of tuck & date purchased
    8. Sign & date.

With a couple thousand of those in hand, you may get some traction.

Well fellas, I just had my frame and leafs replaced and noticed they did not install my AAL, which caused the rear to sag a bit So, I let the dealership know and they said they would Install it and I could pick it up today. Well you not going to believe this, but I picked her up and realized they put my old leaf springs back on and had the new springs in the back of the truck. :brianr: I was like WTF and called the mechanic who did the work and he said my leafs were fine with the AAL and that I Would have had to wait longer for the dealership to order new pins to install the AAl on the new leafs.

He was a really cool dude and took care of me, but Believe I will be calling tomorrow to say what's up????

What would you guys do, just let it go and sell the springs, or press the issue and have them install the new springs with my AAL??

Also have a brand new set of lower control arms that have less than 5k on them if anyone is interested in the Maryland area? Just bought them from Rockauto and they were replaced as part of the frame recall.

I have to agree with Bubba ,we have to work together, this has to stop they need to replace them.I have call 12 times to my dealer and to Corporate in California no results the same story. Its sad because they have known about this for a couple years now. Mine are sagging badly,I cannot put my 2 kids in the back, who by the way weight 190 pds. for both with out bottoming out on the bump stops.

Ok, i think youre confused. The recall is due to breaking leafs and all they do is add an additional clamp to prevent a leaf from puncturing the gas tank. A 'harsh ride' is due to pre-TSB leafs that Toyota was installing due to customer demand of a smoother ride, which reduced payload. I see you have an '06, so Im guessing your issue stems from a 10 year old truck, which is most likely out of warranty, so youre going to need to do your own research and upgrade your suspension.

Just a thought.... Could you get a mechanic/repair shop to put in writing your Springs are so bad that they consider them a safety hazard and/or refuse to wok on the suspension of the truck (i.e. alignment) do to possible liability in the future?? If so I'd send that to Toyota Corporate and demand a written response in case you should have a problem.... Corp my decide that it would be better to just give you new springs now ....

doubtful, once you are out of warranty, they don't have to fix a thing

    Just my thoughts here.

Weak springs are known fact ... I had read about it on TW early on shortly after I bought my truck. I don't know exactly why the weak design, I suspect a desire to produce a soft ride desired by the majority of their market, but I don't really know. I missed qualifying for the TSB by a couple months; I bought my '07 used in May '10. I found out how weak they were the first time I loaded my 640 lb ATV in the bed. My solution was to install ride rite air bags. Others have installed aftermarket leaf packs.

As far as the current drawn out situation, I suspect bringing the 3rd Gen on line slowed up acquisition of replacement packs and delivery to dealers. Toyota has not tried to cover up this situation as far as I see it. I, for one, am impressed that my 8 yr old truck is eligible for new leaf packs under this recall. I'll wait patiently for early 2016, putting my faith in the hope that the replacement leafs will be a properly researched and engineered solution. If you can't wait, purchase aftermarket leaf packs and pursue reimbursement through Toyota. All of this legal action talk seems overly dramatic, complicated, and expensive. But then I'm a relatively simple kinda guy ... boxes on airplanes, yo.

Just my two cents, and purely my opinion, posted with no intention of offending anyone. FWIW

They've been "preparing a remedy" for over a year now, I first got the recall notice last year around this time, maybe august 2014? I've been lucky and mine aren't broken (yet) but they are sagging. Unloaded mine are frowning, with a 500 lb load they hit the bump stops. 2009, about 70,000 miles.

That is a possibility, to have a mechanic look at them. Good idea, I just want to use my truck as a truck,I didn't buy a car. As far as replacing the suspension goes ,I would love to do that. But I have a family and a Autistic child and I am retired so the check doesn't go that far. So any Mods have to done on the cheap
