    From @bill.degrand

FYI: For those considering the drive to Havasupai Point, please be aware of a couple of things. First, camping permits are absolutely REQUIRED from Grand Canyon National Park to camp here. They can be obtained at the South Rim backcountry office prior to your departure, or you can request them ahead of time by printing the permit request and faxing it to the number found on this page: https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/backcountry-permit.htm. This is IN ADDITION to paying the Havasupai's $25 to cross their reservation for access to Grand Canyon National Park. Paying the Havasupai gate keeper is not sufficient to camp in Grand Canyon National Park! Next, camping in the Havasupai Point area is at two designated sites. The nearest to the point is about 1/2 mile back along the road and is called Ruby Point (the backcountry camp use code is SE2 for your permit application) and the furthest is called Signal Hill (backcountry camp code SE1), which is about one mile away. Both of these sites can accommodate small campers. There is NO camping allowed at the point!! There are NO fires allowed in Grand Canyon National Park!! Please don't camp right on the point. The point is the attraction site in this area and should be kept free for day use, picnicking, sunsrise/sunset photography, etc. There is a major trail into Grand Canyon right next door (Bass Trail) so it gets more visitation than you'd think. Grand Canyon rangers also periodically patrol the area so if you're camping sans permit or have a fire expect a ticket! Any questions, please let me know!

Thanks and have a good one,

    Bill DeG

    Contact the Havasupi tribe.
You will need a permit to hike and or camp on their land.
Most likely a long waiting list if I recall correctly from many years ago.
If you get to go be ready it is a 10 mile walk to the village of Supi from the top of the canyon where you head down. Then depending on your camp another mile or two.
Some of the most beautiful falls I have ever seen.
    Moony is my favorite.

Did you ever make it to the point? I am assuming you are referring to camping at the rim and not the hike that Oh-Man is talking about. I am also looking for information on this.

Trip looks awesome! Did you have to call ahead for a permit for Havasupai point or can I just drive up to the gate and pay there? Looking at your trip report, I may want to drive out to Bucksin gulch, then horse shoe bend, and last stop Havasupai Point.

Also, if you have never hiked down to Havasupai Falls and camp. I suggest you do. It's amazing.

We really wanted to but we ran out of time. We heard it was a decent sized hike.

As for the permit, we messed up. You need a pass to camp in the grand canyon national park. We did not have one. When you pull up to the gate when reaching the Havasupai Land, they will ask for your grand canyon permit and 25 dollars cash. We had a pass to enter the park but not camp. I was unaware that we needed that pass so I didn't purposefully fool the guy but I said that that pass was all we were given and he seemed confused. I honestly don't think they care as long as they get their 25 dollars.

I'm looking at google maps and it says take the 64N to FS 328. But from other threads that I have read its off highway 180 to FS 328. How about would you get there from Orange County?

Here is the map that Google Maps routed me at first. I quickly found out that this was somewhat incorrect. We turned off road on to FS 328 just north of Tusayan, AZ off of the 180. The route on this map shows a big curve but we found that one place it told us to turn was wrong. Just stay on FS 328 until you hit the gate. Its about 20 miles to the Havasupai land. The road is put together and we went about 40 most of the way. Just watch out for places that there are rocks or rain washed away the road.

We started in Powell so we were coming down from Utah. The way you would come from OC though would be the 210/10 to the 15 to the 40 and it should be pretty self explanatory from there. Just have your Nav set for Tusayan AZ.

Just definitely stay on FS 328 until you hit the gate. Google Maps will try to take you around Havasupai land on some crazy overgrown trail. I went that way about a mile until I hit two puddles that were about 3-4 ft. deep. I rode halfway in the first one but the second one was deeper and didn't feel like drowning my truck. It also looked like nobody had driven that way in years.

Once on Havasupai land, turn right after a mile or so onto cattle wash and you'll be on a really shitty road with cows everywhere. It is actually not a road but a wash that has never been taken care of and has been destroyed by monsoons. I heard that it normally isn't as bad as it was when I was there. Then keep following your Nav and you'll get there.

Oh if you are gonna camp, camp in the truck bed or RTT. There are ants everywhere at the point. They are the only animal we saw out there.
