I had a 2010 and like an idiot sold it when I had a huge shitty work commute. That's over, so now I can get back into a truck.

All the used tacos in my area I'm willing to look at are so close to new price I don't see the benefit in buying, and the dealers aren't willing to work on price. I figure I should look at new.

What kind of experiences have you all had using a Truecar price quote as a negotiation tactic?

Right now I have a quote from a dealer who is further than I ideally want to drive for 31704.
    Specs:
    Quicksand/graphite
    Double cab
    Off Road
    Tow
    Manual
    Mud Guards
    D rings
door sill protectors w/ a/w floor mats

Thoughts on pricing? I have read the invoice price thread and it seems like that's a pretty damn good quote for a new one. I'm not in a hurry and willing to wait for one being ordered.

    Thanks!

What was your quote compared to invoice? I'm having to drive an hour and a half to find a dealer that is 1. Willing to honor their true car price and 2. Had a true car price around $500 over invoice, most were closer to MSRP or wouldnt honor the pricing

I built a couple on TrueCar also. Felt that the price was reasonable to good (in comparison to some of the prices I've seen them going for) but I'm waiting to here back from my sales manager to find out how good of an employee discount I'll get. And, damn do the salesmen call QUICKLY after submitting it. wow! lol

The quote was 31,704 for the package I listed. That's very close to the invoice pricing I'm seeing.

Yea thats definitely good, 500 above invoice is usually the standard for a good price

Dealers are going to be holding all the cards for the next year or two when it comes to Tacos. However, once the diesel twins/new Frontier/Ranger are all in the market, the competition will drive Taco inventory up, and you can seriously deal. If history is any indication, the current Taco will remain mostly unchanged for the next decade, so what's the rush to overpay for a 2016?

I searched nearly every dealer within an hour or two drive of me and only found one that would honor the price. Definitely call them and ask, because even tho true car is giving you a price a lot of dealers wont honor the price. But if you can get it for near invoice, I dont think the new vehicles will really drive the inventory up. History also indicates that Tacoma has remained the best selling mid size pickup for a long time

Why on earth are you buying a used car from a dealer?
Just shoot yourself in the foot now and get it over with.

One exception is Carmax; you can buy unreliable European cars from them and add their stellar extended warranty that is honored at any dealer/indy shop. Probably not worth it on a Japanese car, but a worry free S-class or something for a third of its new price is pretty compelling.

Good luck with Trucar. My experience is its nothing more than a bait and switch scam. Suddenly they won't have the truck anymore or can't get it.

I bought my last truck using TrueCar, was super simple and didnt have to deal with the whole negotiations process. Came time to seal the deal and I dropped the military rebate on top of it all to save an extra thousand. Same thing I'm doing on this one

Thats what a lot of the dealers are doing. There's a reason it gives you three dealers with all different prices, some of which are not even that great of a deal. And they still wont honor those prices. When I called this dealer they responded with "we are a TrueCar dealer so yes we will honor that price." And since I am ordering it custom, none of the extras like floor mats or other nonsense that may be already on an in stock vehicle, will raise the price. It should be exactly what True Car quoted plus the dealer processing fee. And then financing gives the $1000 military rebate if you finance with Toyota. I'm sure they sell a ton of cars from people using TrueCar, even if the profit margin is not as great, having their name on there probably makes up for it in volume

I got my 2014 TRD OR 4x4 (end of 2013) for 30.999 using true car and almost 3k below MSRP. Talked to the internet sales department before I even got there and paid exactly what they quoted me :notsure:

You just have to be prepared and do your homework, take your time and you'll find a good deal
