The "OEM" tonneau may be installed at the distribution point. Like south east toyota.

I was at the dealer last weekend and we were reviewing the port installed options. The T-cover was not one of the items that I could have installed there. Seems like it needs to be selected prior to build. So, if they truly do cut away some of the cap like seen in the photo posted here earlier, then that is yet another reason to buy an aftermarket version.

It really does look like a hack job. Purchased a 16 Off Road with the factory tonneau cover and there are 3 of those cutouts on each side (two on the back half and one near the front). Raining right now so can't take any pics.

I asked one of the owners in the magnetic gray thread to snap some pics of his cover and those connections.

Someone posted that Toyota started adding the covers in an effort to meet CAFE standards.

One, I can't believe the tonneau makes that much differance.
And two, why would ToMoCo bother with this? It only adds a potential warranty issue and the competition doesn't offer a factory cover that I know of?

Seems the effort/money could be spend better elsewhere to improve the truck.

I contend, there is a business or .gov regulation reason. Otherwise, why bother?

Wow. Just when you thought the factory tonneau couldn't get any worse. Horrible.

Not sure about the competition not offering a cover. I purchased my sport trac with the cover as a standard option back in 2003

One of the few. Maybe the only one that I know of. But I don't believe that vehicle is still in production.

yeah they stopped making it a year or two ago. However, my point was that if Ford did it back in 2003 then some other vehicle must have it now.

My truck did not have the cover scheduled to be in the build. Was going to have the dealer order and install after I received the truck. But it sounds like they have to do at the factory due to bed modifications?

You can get a cover with the Colorado or Canyon, but they are dealer installed accessories.

    Yes.
And a part of my point was the gen3 tacoma doesn't need a factory cover from a competition point of view.

Here are some pics to help you guys out. There is still a small gap between the tonneau and the bed. No biggie for me. It looks like for removal, all you have to do is take off the one bolt in the front right. Shouldn't be too bad. It's a durable cover. I'd rather have spent $700 elsewhere butt fuck me right? I tried to have them take it off but they refused. Wheels and tires on the way :fenforcer:

    AYFKM???

This is a factory cover? Must be a new low in an OEM accessory design & fit.

If you look closely at the pics above thomas provided, you can see the latch post I provided a close up for. Yep, not going to get one of these dealer installed. If you want one, it's going to be a factory order. I don't blame the dealer for not wanting to take it off and provide a credit or reduce the MSRP. Too much trouble with the bed mods that are made. It would be hard to resell.

well those pics confirm the mods they have to do to get the oem tri-fold to mount.

so you would have to order new parts to get a clean look if you remove the oem tri-fold. glad I ordered w/o the oem tri-fold and going with an access roll up cover :)
