I wouldnt say bury. You have to realize there is a huge tacoma fan base and ALOT of guys willing to throw down ALOT of money for the first ones, which is this initial purge, the 15's were outselling the Twins too.

There is a lot of latent demand for the diesel, so I wouldn't be surprised if the twins outsell the Taco in the first month that the diesel is fully available. Other than that, I expect the Taco to maintain its substantial sales lead.

When the Ranger arrives with a turbo 4, it might be a different ballgame. Lots of loyal F150 owners out there looking to downsize.

the only issue with the twins diesel, the EPA has already stated, they will be the poster child for the new in depth scrutiny due to dieselgate that VW caused.

Let's see if they can legitimately pass the EPA regs now... the VW scandel is making Toyota look really smart.

Toyota is playing it safe and easy not smart. Hence the timid "new gen" we got.

Yes, I realize all that. The Taco was the reason the Colorado and Canyon got discontinued in the fist place, and there's a huge Taco fan base. That's pretty much my point.

Even though, for some reason, you think the front-end is horrifying, lol, there's no reason to think this truck isn't going to sell like mad over the next few years. Which is NOT what GM was hoping for.

Oh it will, lots of 2nd and 1st gen guys will move into 3rd gens. And come on, the vast majority of people dont like the front end, the rest of the truck I really like improvement wise, that front end though is f-ing terrible, there are countless threads about it.

*IF* But yes, if the Ranger comes back I think it will be more competition for the Tacoma than the GM twins. Ford's whole reason for discontinuing the Ranger had a lot to do with taking away F150 sales, which they make a bunch more money on... so who knows if Ford is even willing to bring it back.

I think if some competition shows up and have some turbo or diesel options that prove to be worthwhile, we will see Toyota move that direction. Toyota has always been such a good working company because of how conservative they are. I think if they see they are losing sales to diesel and turbo trucks, they'll come out with something that will do what they do, better. That's kind of always been their philosophy. Do what works, and do it better than everyone else. Never first to the plate but almost always a winner in the long run

Those threads have diminished greatly if you haven't noticed. The same way the 2nd Gen haters diminished. Those initial threads were based on people natural reaction to resist change.

Great summary of Toyota, which is why they maintain QDR and sales in the world.

Have you seen it in person? I wasn't a total fan from pictures, but being in the market for a new truck and loving the Toyota brand I went ahead and ordered one before actually seeing it in person. Saw my first one and took it for a drive a few days ago, and I think the new front end looks great! Much better than what the pictures show. Even the weird looking TRD grille looked nice in person

There's a new thread on how to fix it, with Chris in AZ sending his trucks out to fix the grill. o_O

Exactly. They're worth more than #2 VW and #3 Ford combined

I saw the quicksand AC at the Autoshow. I'm sure it will become the norm, but its not pretty, but how designs are now. I dont like the F150 grill either, but they look sick lifted. Same with stock Tundras.

Toyota has built a following around QDR. Obviously the new Tacoma is lacking in the specs department compared to the twins but it's reputation is carrying it.
