I've decided to get the double cab V-6 long bed TRD sport in automatic with the following features:

    Sunroof
    Tonneau cover
    Tow package
    Etune technology package

This is where I could really use some help and advice/opinions: what is it that the JBL technology package adds to the tier 1 technology package to justify the price increase? I've looked at the brochure and the website and it is just not that clear to me on what the differences are. I thought the JBL package included the sub woofer but I'm finding out that is only available only Limited model.

I like the touch screen but really do not need the navigation or the apps suite; I use an iPhone and an iPad for those things instead.

So besides better speakers, the navigation, and the apps suite, is there anything else that comes with the JBL technology package that I am missing?

Thanks - but what are the actual differences in the technology packages? In other words if I choose to only get the tier 1 technology package what am I missing out on from not getting the JBL package?

It's not that the extra money is a big deal I just don't want to pay for the upgrade if I'm basically just getting a navigation system that I know I won't use. If the difference was something like heated seats, remote start keyless entry, etc. then it would be worth it

See that's one of the areas that I am also unsure of. They have the price of the sunroof listed separately but if it is also part of the JBL package then that would be another justification for the price difference. If it just comes standard with any upgrade in technology I'm not so sure.

I just checked the brochure. The non JBL tech package still includes the moon roof. So, if you want JBL you are going to pay $700 for it.

According to the e-brochure, the subwoofer is part of the premium tech + JBL option for TRD ORs. On the limited it's standard.

Not sure of your location but where I am you can either get the premium and tech package or the premium and tech with JBL. Only difference is about $700 and the JBL includes an upgraded sound system. Typically the radio sounds shitty from bad signal before my sound quality ever takes a dive so I personally do not need the JBL. And if I ever feel the need to upgrade my sound system, I would rather add the crossover from taco tunes and just put in some better door speakers with an external amp and not have to give up 2/3 of my space behind the seats, which I frequently use. Just my two cents here. With the new truck being more quiet inside and the TRD model including the premium system standard, its already an upgrade over my entune audio plus from my 14.

Oh and btw here navigation is included with the TRD models standard, as is keyless entry. The sport has the key fob and push button start. Premium and tech package adds the heated seats, dual zone climate control, blind spot monitoring, parking sonar (in case you really suck at parking and the backup camera wasnt enough) and the moonroof. Oh and rear cross traffic alert plus auto headlights. Not sure what the tier 1 tech package is tho

thanks for the breakdown. looks like i may be going with the standard trd sport with no upgrades. that's already plenty of tech. does the non-upgraded trd sport still have the wireless phone charging. i think someone else told me that it does.

I want all of the bells and whistles in a TRD OR 4x4 but I think I like the Chrome bumper better for some reason...seems to break up the look of the truck a bit more. Do most people prefer the color-keyed or Chrome? Maybe I'm the black sheep on this

wow that's great. your point about losing space for the sub is a good one. so if i get this right you're saying on the TRD sport there is no difference on the sound systems between standard and non-tech. the only difference would be getting the JBL? as for all the other features the only other thing i'll miss is the moonroof. don't need dual climate, heating seats, etc. i'd rather put that extra $3k into tube steps (maybe) and a roof rack.

The standard is the non-tech. But yes, in previous years it was an upgrade to get the Entune audio plus, even more for the premium and JBL was the top of the line package. Now the TRD series comes with Entune Audio Premium with integrated navigation. All the tech package adds is the other stuff i listed. And then the tech package with JBL adds the JBL system with subwoofer. $2300 for tech package, $3000 for tech package with JBL. It's one or the other (so $700 for JBL). And you cant get JBL without the tech package. For me part of the reason for wanting to upgrade is having the moonroof, I just like them. And if you've ever driven with a female in the passenger seat you know that 1. Windows down is a no go, and 2. They're always too cold or too hot, so for me the dual zone is one of those "nice to have" things. Blind spot monitoring crap I could care less, but its the new thing and should add resale (wonder if the insurance companies are giving discounts for this like they do other safety features?). And I ski in the winter, so heated seats is another "nice touch" but not a must have. But hey for 2k I feel like you get a lot in the tech package
