3 gens been moving for 3+ weeks, the study is September only. It's just showing a possible trend.

I'm not thrilled with the engine specs either, but it does have quite a bit more HP than the 2 gens and more fuel efficiency, albeit, less torgue and overall size....but what do most Taco owners really need... we'll see.

And Yet in July 2nd Gen Toyota sales totally buried GMs twins.......

Until they actually see it..then the recurring theme of "it looks way better in person" prevails

I am also sticking with Big T since I tend to prefer manual transmissions. I also understand that I am a dying breed and will be sad when I cannot get them anymore.

umm, because you can put 500k miles on it, beat the shit out of it in the mountains, and still maintain resale value.

Anyway, GM will probably wind up beating itself....too many people go in for a Colorado and come out with a Silverado.

The twin's achilles heel is...........General Motors..Their lawlessness and especially after having owned a couple of their Halo cars and suffering GM service I would not touch a GM if it was parked in my driveway with a big f&*king bow on it. They are recalling 10 year old cars STILL.(see 05 Corvette low beam recall)....and with that took months to obtain a simple solution...

look up transmission issue with 2015 Colorado. Yeah....They are selling. I looked at the Canyon and could not believe the price they wanted for it. Given GMs excellent resale value.....:puke:

First off, I don't disagree that the Colorado and Canyons aren't selling, and aren't decent trucks....but there are some inaccuracies here. They haven't up'd production for a reason.

The factory that produces them is already at capacity. The can't up the production unless they build a new factory, which will take quite some time. I think they are probably going to wait and see how things shake out once the new Ridgeline and Frontier come to market. To justify building a new factory, they have to be sure of what their market share will be for years to come.

And see how far ahead of them Toyota remains, which is the point of this thread, and the reason their factory is so small.

Whether you like the 3 gen, think's it's a half-ass redesign, wimpy engine, etc. or not....it's looking like it's enough to keep them on top.

I actually like the Canyon a lot (the Colorado is starting to look very Malibu turns into a pickup). But am betting on Toyota on this one.

What I would really like is Nissan to build a good looking Frontier that is comparable to the Tacoma or the twins. I'd like to see the Japanese do a bit of battle for the Midsize market.

Yes I agree. As I said in my first post, it would take quite some time for GM to catch up to Toyota in market share. I would guess that current demand levels would have to continue for at least another year or two before GM would even think about building another factory, and then it would first take at least a year or more for that factory to be online.

I agree, but I do take my trucks out in the sticks quite a bit. I've bottomed out full-size trucks everywhere and ripped off their running boards. That's why I bought a 4runner instead. The short bed will do me well. I just wish it would show up

Honestly I've never had a problem with drum brakes.....but I've had plenty of problems with disk brakes.

That being said all 4 with disk will have more stopping power

I would not be surprised if Toyota Management put out the word SELL AS MANY AS YOU CAN (with hefty bonuses)......which is why we are seeing Invoice and a few hundred above invoice sales. I personally would not buy a Tacoma at MSRP and I am sure many others feel the same way and are getting trucks moved Toyota would not ordinarily have sold as early/ Toyota wants a huge opening for this truck and is getting it at all Prices.

    No problem!!

If you are sure you don't need the truck, take the 4Runner. Hands down. Best commercial build quality compared to everyone out there. They have build 4Runners in the same factory since day 1.

I already have 2 small SUVs I want/need a truck. So the new Taco it is. :)

Tacoma beats the Twins in off road capability, resale value, their fan club and reliability*. GM wins just about in every other category. With the X factor Diesel coming to town soon.

*However, reliability for both is undetermined. Everyone here and everywhere else for whatever that is worth, loves to believe the whole "if it was this way in the past, it will always be this way" type of thinking. That is what bankrupts people in the stock market and housing markets. Yeah, Toyota has been great in the past. Yeah, the Colorados weren't the best in Gen 1. So that will drive sales patterns for the first few years. But the past is NEVER indicative of the future in anything despite what we all want to believe. So the reliability of these Tacos and the Twins as well is TBD.
