I took out my LSD on my sport model Tacoma and put a detroit locker in it. Its really dope and WAY better than the LSD:) I barley even notice it on the street. I was able to climb some pretty step hills.

Bout $850.00 thats hook up price too... And I got hooked up because I played it safe & bought a TruTrac first and then changed my mind after having it for a week. So now I have a used / brand new (less than 65miles) Detroit TruTrac sitting at my house:mad:

But all in all so far I <3 My Locker!

If you need daily driving traction in the winter - Get the LSD (from factory).

For offroad with the LSD in the rear.... Put a selectable locker in the front diff and engage it when needed offroad.

The TRD Offroad lockers is an electronic FULLTIME selectable locker and best for offroading. The LSD is best for daily driving purposes.

i think you can get them from 4 wheel parts- i *believe* that ARB makes one of their air lockers for it:). also, any front locker advertised for the FJ cruiser will fit in the tacoma too.....

No offense, but wouldn't the answer be quite obvious? The Off Road package would probably come better equipped for Off Roading than the Sport.

    Do you off road?

Mud, sand, rocks, lose dirt, hill climbs, flexed out, all of those situations a locker benefits you tremendously.

What trucks come equipped with the LSD? Do you have to buy the TRD package to get it?

Depends how extreme you plan on taking your truck 'off-road'.

For 95% of people, any open diff 4wd is fine on light to even some moderate terrain.

The Sport's LSD adds more rear traction, and is always 'on', but only as long as both wheels are in contact with the ground and only a limited amt tq can be transferred side to side.

Which is why the Off-Road locker is best for the most difficult terrian (also skid plates, A/T tires), especially if your getting an axle off the ground. From the factory, it can only be used when the button is pushed in addition to already being in 4lo. Otherwise its an open diff rear.

No offense taken. In my experiance, 4L would do the job.
The problem with that is that I do not have much experiance.
    RR
    DIFF
    LOCK
    Switch.
I throw that in for straight line.
I just have not done it. I tried it and it did not lock.
I was in too much trouble any way.
    I needed the tractor.

On the 2005+ trucks - the LSD's are also available in non-TRD trucks.

I don't know what all is available for the front diff of the tacomas. The ARB locker is on the expensive side, should require professional installation, and gear setup along with an air supply..... it's the cadillac of lockers.

It's totally selectable and can be engaged anytime. I have two of them in my jeep and couldn't be happier.

It's fun as hell attempting a steep hillclimb - you get 3/4 of the way up and start spinning (even with a rear locker on). While you're standing still with all 4 wheels spinning - reach down, flip that switch, and Off you go...to the top.
    It's awesome!

well, mines an SR5 and it came optioned with the LSD. you can check under the truck and if it has a LSD, then the rear diff will have a sticker that says so. its a reminder sticker for the oil change guys to add the friction modifier for it.

If all 4 tires are already spinning, locking the ARB' is not going to do anything to help, but now if some of the tires are not spinning the same speed as the others, equalizing the speed might help a little, but not much. Maybe you actually only have 3 spinning, or the L & R fronts alternately spinning back and forth.
