Really? Never? Are you kidding? While you make a valid point, we really don't know for sure the reliability of either of these trucks, past performance is our best indicator to go on... and a pretty good one.

Yeah, never. IF something continues to happen the same way, it isn't simply because it happened that way in the past.

Hahaha, that's word trickery, man. And not what you wrote.

When Payton Manning got drafted into the NFL it was because of what he did in the past. Obviously, they expected him to continue to practice, focus and stay healthy. The past was a clear indicator of what he was capable of doing. It was very reasonable to believe he would succeed.

True but that also bites a lot of GMs in their asses. You never know.

You don't hear about that in the mainstream media because the total $ amount per every man, woman and child in the U.S. is closer to $40 per person, not 5 million. But who's counting?

11.5 billion divided by 318 million is 36.

The ultimate reliability of the Taco can be pretty accurately guessed by the parts it uses and the history of the maker.

I think the GS350's engine has been a very reliable engine.....The transmission as well. In fact the tacoma does not have much that has already been reliable on other Toyotas...Crawl Control? Check 4Runners.... Past results are a great indicator with a company whose is rabid about QDR and uses proven parts from their Halo auto parts bin. One might say there isn't much new about the Tacoma at all..

BTW Belief in the Stock market and the housing markets has been a great thing ....Like clockwork....The Markets ALWAYS come back..and go up Unless you get shaken out at the bottom.

When talking bailout, it is fair to mention GM paid back everything plus interest. So it was a gain to the American taxpayer and a gain to the tens of thousands of jobs it saved.

Also, no one seems to mention the bailouts of other auto manufacturers. Chrysler? Ford? Ford took several government loans over the years. Ford also had a HUGE issue in the late 80's with their Explorers and a fire issue. They were set to get recalled by the NHTSA, which at the time would have for sure bankrupted them due to the number of vehicles that would need to be recalled, and some backdoor deal stopped the recall from happening. Probably not the first time this sort of thing has gone on.

Absolute BS. GM re-paid the taxpayer bailout with another taxpayer bailout.

That story is 5 years old and also comes from Fox. Get something a little more recent and accurate.

    Baloney.

The Highlander is a unibody crossover - basically a tall Camry station wagon. The Taco is a body-on-frame, solid-rear-axle truck, that is a little more refined than the precipitous generation Taco.

I was pretty much set on a Tacoma Off Road... I promised myselft I would never buy a GMC... the experience I had with a GMC Jimmy that I bought new back in 1996 was enough to steer me away from anything from them ever again... bad brakes that got me into an accident once and almost in another several other ocations, that 4.3 engine with the rust and leaks... this was a brand frigging new truck! Anyway, for many years I promised myself not to touch another GM product, until now...

When the Twins came out I went to the dealer to try to test drive one. They could not keep them on the showroom floor and all the had was a base Colorado. Being a base truck, the interior had more plastic and look so bland that it really discouraged me from going back to the dealer again.

With some of the frustration of not being able to get the Tacoma Off Road that I want, and with the Canyon/Colorado Diesel coming out, I decided to stop by the GMC dealer again. This time I drove the Canyon SLE All Terrain model. Very nicely equiped, great interior, like the wheels, just everything about it was great. The first thing I tested on the test drive was the brakes, lol, everything worked fine.

The idea of a midsize with a Diesel was too much of a temptation for me and I went for it. I kid you not, I know I will be at the dealer more with this truck than if I had waited to find the Tacoma Off-Road that I wanted... but those mpg numbers on the Diesel, the added torque for pulling the boat and trailers when hauling my car projects around... and the fact that the Canyon in that All Terrain trim looks and feel so great, just made me do it. It is a huge risk, I know... I am not going blind into this, I have been reading first year owner experiences in the Colorado/Canyon forum.

Time will tell how big of a mistake I just made...

Good luck with the Canyon. It's a really nice truck and probably a better choice if towing is an important thing for you. My general impression is that the Canyon is a more sturdy on road truck with great towing ability and a more luxurious interior, while the Tacoma is more sporty and better off road.
