Had a wheel spacer break on me tonight

Just installed 1.5" wheel spacers Saturday and one broke on me tonight. Thank goodness I had just stopped at a light and I wasn't going down the interstate anymore, the front right of the truck suddenly dipped and hit the ground. I got the truck taken to a reliable shop that I've dealt with for years. Needless to say all the spacers will be coming off

 

wow interesting, i was thinking about putting on some of these, that is a little scary.

 

To be honest Rich, I don't know. A buddy of mine ordered a set and they shipped him two so he gave me a set. And thanks, the Irish luck was definitely with me tonight

 

Why I will never ever run them. What color were they?

Egads, that is bad news man, well that just sealed that purchase for me, guess i will buy some wheels with a deeper offset to make up the difference.

 

I'd like photos first chance you get....cause all the stud shearing at once sounds intense.

wow. glad were not on the highway anymore! def would like to see some pics if you get the chance. i have always heard bad things of spacers but never this, although like you said many people on here run them hard with no issues.

 

and you can't discount materials if the install was not done correctly. Know if the bolts holding the spacer on and the lug nuts on the tries were properly torqued is important too.

There are lots of points of failure if things aren't done right (either designed/built correctly or installed correctly).

 

where they from a reputable company or just some off ebay?

 

my buddy with a jeep bought some spidertrax spacers ( i dont know the size) but he put them on and was a few days later just going down his driveway a wheel fell off. all of the studs broke. he called them up and got them to send him a whole new set. i was amazed that they would just break like that.

 

As was said...the amount of individuals running Spidertrax and wheeling hard they are proven in my mind. i say something was not done right in the installation process. Hell we dont even know what type and who put them on. Ive had them since June and did some hard wheeling a few times already not to mention a 3000 mile road trip, roundtrip. just fine. proper brand and proper install is where its at.

I agree, not enough information to throw out the baby with the bath water just yet. Did the owners of Tacomas whose motor mounts broke sell their trucks and vow never to buy another crappy Toyota product again?

 

Yes, we torqued them to the correct specs, can't remember the exact amount off the top of my head. The install was done by a buddy of mine and me. Sometimes, somethings just happen and that's what I'm chalking it up to. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and it didn't happen going down the interstate. I will be taking the rest of them off once the truck comes back from the shop. I know to some of you, they have been proven to you but in my mind, I'm very leary to put them back on. I'm happy with the way my truck looks without them
