TRD supercharger availability update

You're probably wishing you sold yours.

 

in that case the the only people who should still get the oem trd supercharger are the guys with the 2014-2015 models who are going to have the dealer install it to retain their 5 year 60k mile drivetrain warranty. the magnuson supercharger with their 3 year 36k s/c warranty is great for people who don't care about factory warranties or way out of the warranty

 

I dont have time, someone make the oprah meme "you get a supercharger, everyone gets a supercharger!"

PS, Dont let the dealer BS you on self installs either. When i had my reflash done they tried to tell me I only had like 4 months on my warranty left, due to the time I bought the SC, i had to correct the idiot and show him the instruction saying it was 12 months warranty from time of install. So seeing as how Id installed the day before, id consider the reflash day my warranty start.

Yea I had to take a minute to laugh about it. I'm so used to idiot dealers trying to get one over on me, these days, It just makes me chuckle. Hence why I got a quote over the phone for reflash, and the showed up and told a different guy i was quoted a way lower number. Kaching!

Get a friend. Trust me. Doing it by yourself would suck. My neighbor helped out, being a retired mechanic himself, still took us about 16 hours from start to finish, he was at my place for maybe 8 of those hours.

 

Annnnnnd my back fuckin hurt for like 2 weeks afterwords lol.

 

I hear ya, trust me. But I'll never get any of my loser friends to commit that much time. I can't even get them to do fun stuff with me..ha
That's the delay. I need to block out a full weekend and do nothing else but. From Friday night to Sunday night. Probably have a broken back like you when all said and done. But will it be worth it ????? (I know it will and can't wait!!)

I spoke to the master mechanic at my dealer today. He said it had been a few years since they installed any superchargers but estimated it between 10-12 hrs @108/hr. I let him know another dealer would install for a flat 1k.

He said they would match but when I make the appointment to have the writer speak to him.

 

$108/hr?! The Supercharger is an accessory, there should be different rates for accessory installs. My dealer charges $90/hr for accessories and something like $110 for mechanical work. I negotiated the $90/hr down to $80/hr. It was done by the Master Tech.

 

I understand what you are saying but a SC is quite the (mechanical) accessory

 

Please. After doing it myself, now I know that anything over $800 is way to fuckin much. Shit, I'd probably charge $500 for the install if someone local wanted me to do it. Its really not that bad. Having done it once already, and now knowing what all goes everywhere, it really wouldn't be that bad.

 

After reading the detailed instructions & the install thread, I would be fine doing it myself, but for time & my extended warrenty is the only reason to have the dealer handle it.

 

I agree. But Toyota defines it as an accessory to be installed at an accessory shop rate. If the dealer is charging you the mechanical rate they are upselling you big time.
